I just got burned hard on a knife I just sold. Had a Benchmade 42 Titanium BaliSong. The guy I sold it too just put it back up for sale for $1,000. I don't even want to say what I sold it to him for. :( Is there a "bluebook" type thing for knives so I don't do this again?

Don't feel too bad. I've done the same thing in the past. I would guess many others her have sold knives at a price that was too low.
Live and learn.

ouch, sorry man, gotta be careful next time, can't change the past though just gotta take it in stride, another lesson learned.

He put it up for $1000. That doesn't mean he'll get half that.

There is no blue book on knives, but a quick search of Bladeforums and eBay will give you an idea of what the current market looks like. A few specific influences pushed up the price of the 42. Part of it was a feeding frenzy, where people who had them got greedy, and people who wanted them spent more than they should have -- thereby validating the overpricing.

 what did he do for you to sell it to him so cheaply. I mean was he a friend, family, or just a fast taler. Sorry dude.:(

We've all had a moment of bad judgment here and there.
I'm not too thrilled with people so willing to take advantage of others.
It's times like these that I like to remind myself that if I'm ever in a big disaster scenario I know exactly who I'm going to help and exactly who I'm knocking out of the way in my dash to safer pastures.

Don't feel bad. He's a fool if he thinks he'll get $1000 for it. Unless there's something special about it that I'm missing, but I've seen custom ground Samson knives go for less than that so I don't think you need to worry. as long as you got around 300 for I'd say that was reasonable.

Sweet. I got one for $125 off the exchange about a year ago. It has a 440c blade and it's like a razor. Perfect condition. I'll never get rid of it. Not happy about your deal but I didn't realize they went up so much.

Yeah it was a 440C blade. I have been out of the loop on knives so long that I really didn't realize what I had until someone emailed me to point out what the guy did. He wasn't even a fast talker. I was just trying to get some money to buy some meds for my son so I wasn't really thinking straight. :(

Damn, best wishes to you and your son. I don't see that knife going for that much.

I second that. You can always do some research on the net before
putting a price on something. I would not let it bother you to much. You
will get another chance at a good deal if you do this long enough. Keep
your head up. Kevin

Lessons learned are valuable, even if it cost you money. You won't get fooled again, says Roger Daltry. Ebay has a great tool that I use called the completed listings search. It will show you what any item recently sold for, or what it did not get a bid on due to it is too high. This quick search will get you close to value, and could have helped you see where the true current value or what people are willing to pay is. Prayers to you and your son.

1000$.

Anyone jumping on that is clueless. Might as well get a custom for that kind of money.

ive had deals like that happen before and like has been said before, live and learn man...but i dont like when people take advantage of a situation...that is not cool:thumbdn:

Best of luck to you and your son.

Asking 1000 dollars for a 180 dollar knife.
Thats crazy.

But he has done nothing wrong.
Paid your asking price and wants a profit now.

What was your selling price?

Asking price is never a reflection of worth. Anything... a car, a firearm, a knife... is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not what someone prices it at.
