Well, it finally happened...

I feel your loss and feel for you. I have lost a sak and a GEC Pemberton that had sentimental value. May they welcome your lost companion into their brotherhood.

I was at the movies yesterday and happen to do the pocket pat thing and was missing my Douk Douk and my car keys. Luckily they were still in the seat.

I definitely thought about the bright covers or lanyard, but I'm thinking the only fail safe idea right now is a belt knife.
I have been giving some thought to one of those mud bugs or whatever smith and sons calls their 21 lockback.
A custom shop 110 is also sounding better...
Sorry for your loss. :(
In addition to a Custom Shop Buck 110 (or even a standard 110) check out the 110's at Copper and Clad. (They are a sponsoring dealer, so I can name them).
They have some pretty nice 110's, some even with 5160 blade steel, drop point or clip point, and covers not available from the custom shop.
It is my understanding they have special runs made for them.
Prices are very reasonable, too.

I believe Dave ( Horsewright Horsewright ) makes something similar to what you're talking about, but it's an actual leather slip with a lanyard that loops around the belt. I can't recall his name for it right now, though.
I like Dave's design a lot. It looks good and gives good protection. The only advantage a short lanyard offers is that you can use it as a wrist strap when you are working in awkward situations.

I think the 110 or 112 idea is the way to go. And not just because I like them so much. I prefer belt sheaths and never even notice when I'm wearing them anymore. I always know where my knife is and I think it's easier access then having something in my pocket. After losing one you may look like a 3rd base coach for a while patting all your pockets...

collector knives has a very affordable clip slip that I'm a quick fan of for traditional knives. I've using it with my trapper around the house the past couple weeks and grabbed another for the farmer jack I started bringing to work. Of course, then you have a clip showing. The regular slips with a lanyard, or monofilament fishing line, is more discreet.

You might still find it. Strange things happen. I lost an Al Mar while early deer scouting in a 150 acre corn field. Found it while goose hunting in November.--KV

Another vote for the Horsewright buckaroo pouch:

And they're darned cheap, too.

I really like this idea.

You mean like this one?:D

It's the knife I've been carrying for the past few days. I'm still not quite comfortable wearing a fixed blade into a government building. I haven't seen a weapons policy yet, but I figured I'd keep it a little subtle for now.
I actually don't mind belt knives at all. I almost always have one on. I just really like having a smaller traditional as well.

That was good!

My supervisor did try to steer me towards a phanny pack like he wears, but I'm sorry, I don't need to carry a slip joint that bad...

SadSappySucker sure sorry to hear of your loss. I've got two solutions, both a little late. The first is my Folding Knife Pouch as has been mentioned already. Here is a few pics of how it works:

Cool deal about this is that it works with or with out a belt as it attaches to the belt loop. Pull on the string, it comes out of your pocket, just leave the pouch dangling while you use your knife and then its ready to be put away when you are done with the knife.

Second idea would be what I call the Folding knife Belt Sheath:

Either is equally handy.

If a guy were to ever wonder what would happen to a knife and sheath when run over by a lawn mower:

I never did hear from the customer how the knife and sheath got under the mower but.... I was able to fix the blade as it had been deflected about a 1/8" by the lawn mower blade impact and I built him a new sheath:

Dang, Erik, that does bite! I like the idea of either the 110 in a belt sheath or Horsewright's folding knife pouch.

I think I would hesitate to wear your Fiddleback Forge fixed blade to work!

I've been carrying a traditional pocket knife for about two years now and read countless stories about that dreaded moment when you reach into your pocket and realize your knife is not there.
Well, it finally happened to me. I recently took a county job as a groundskeeper and spend a good deal of my time bouncing around on a riding lawn mower. I knew it wouldn't be wise to carry my beloved barlow, so I carried my micarta 71(that Dantone graciously gave me some time back) instead. Plus, a sodbuster just seemed like the the most appropriate knife to carry to a landscaping job. Yesterday I was half way into mowing a field when I did one of my regular "pocket pats" to make sure everything was still in its proper place. I immediately noticed the knife was gone. I knew I had it when I got on the mower, but I knew it was pointless to search the park for it. It would have had to have been a miracle for my blind eyes to find a bolsterless od green knife in a couple acres of freshly mowed grass.
My only hope now is that it's eventual new owner appreciates it as much as I did.
It looks like it will be belt knives from here on out at work.
