Well, It Finally Happened...

yep. I dont use a knife on clam packs anymore. I use metal snips. cut right through it like it's not there. safe and effective.

sorry ya got nipped op, try the metal snips. some places call them tin snips or straight cut aviation snips. very handy tool for many tasks besides sheetmetal i always used them on for work and as being discussed those clam packs.

2 stitches? Pfffft. Super glue it and call it a day.

Try to be more careful, but consider yourself very, very lucky. 2 stitches is nada.

I cut the front pad on my index finger tonight on a USMC Ka-Bar, that blade loves the taste of blood and I forgot about its top edge...A small cut, no stitches required...

Sorry to hear about the bad cut.

Get your family a Zibra open-it 5 in 1 package opener. It is an offset heavy duty shear made just for this purpose. We keep one in a kitchen drawer in my house. It's not as much fun as a knife, but urgent care visits aren't fun either...

That's nothing like mentioned super glue and butterfly bandages. I hit myself in the shin with a battle mistress yeah she bit me, I knew when I heard the knife go clank on my shin bone I was cut. I taped it all up about 4 or 5 stitches worth. It seeped blood for a couple of days but healed up nicely. You play with sharp stuff you will get cut eventually. Good luck going forward and be safe out there.

It took one time long ago for me to learn an important rule, NEVER cut anything with any part of your body in the path of the blade edge! Haven't cut myself since.

That rules out the shaving arm hair edge test.:D
I should say never cut anything that requires force with any part of your body in the blade path. That is what happened to me I was notching a stick and holding it upwards, the knife slips and came down laid my left index finger and thumb open. I should have laid the stick on something and cut the notch with the blade pointing away from me.

It happens. Sealed clamshells are the worst, I've yet to figure out the 'right way' to open them.
Good on you for going to the professionals to have it stitched up properly - I'd have been tempted to throw on a butterfly bandage and spend the next few weeks hoping for the best.

Leatherman wingman has a package opener as a tool that works perfectly for this.

I slipped using my Native 5 LW to open a clamshell package and my thumb was there to catch it. Just got back from urgent care with 2 stitches in my left thumb for my stupidity.
I absolutely hate clam shell packaging. It's dangerous. Bloodied your Native 5. It happens. But that was a pretty good choice for opening one of these packages.

Got 12 stitches from cutting off a zip tie a few yrs ago with a freshly sharpened Spyderco Cat... Sharp it was !!! John

I feel ya it sucks and you’re like I’m an idiot. This happened trying to assemble this damn thing which is harder than expected tilted forward blade fell out and smacked me above the ankle. Never taking another axis lock apart.
