I went to grab one of my Queen DB Barlows today after getting back from MGH.
This is what I found.

I think this is number 4 of the DB's. Plus a few other Queens.
Not a real good day.:(
This and some surgery scheduled to get some cancer removed.
But both can be fixed.

Praying for your safe recovery as well.

Is this common on slipjoints? This is the first case I've seen of this kind of thing.

Two of my offshore Marbles suffered the same fate.
The first a pre-ME number "US" all steel hawkbill, that was stored in a cigar box (blade closed) for a couple years. No idea why/how/when it broke. I was in the hospial or physical therapy following my stroke, when it broke.

The second a new MR238 "Demo" knife. A "genious" in marketing decided it would look best with all four blades 1/3 to 1/2 open, pretty much guaranteeing a busted spring.

Both were replaced under warranty. They did not want the broken knives sent back.

The 4 blade Scout/Camp/Utility/"Demo" knife by any maker is known to suffer a busted back spring when both blades on the same spring are opened 1/2 way. Goes with the design.

Every time I hear about Queen back springs snapping I get the sinking feeling. I'm very fond of he D2 range which came in bones and woods and I just wonder about them- fixing nigh impossible now Queen has submerged.

I send Power for your continued good health & well-being

Thanks, Will

Prayers for your surgery! May Mother Mary protect you.

I’ve had two backsprings break on me so I know it does happen sometimes. It makes me think it’s better to enjoy the knife and mourn it if something happens… than to preserve it “perfect” and something may still happen.

I have had it happen with slipjoints and with multitools.
Ideally you want it to happen whilst the company is still around...

Is the Queen brand back under again? I just bought a new US production Queen knife not that long ago. Not a clue who is actually making them though.
