Well, looks like the Hinderer Slippy is releasing...

I hope it goes well for them. It seems abit odd to me to have an overbuilt slipjoint. For me part of the joy of a slipjoint is that they are small and compact and easy to take anywhere. Also I don't need an overbuilt slippy since I don't want to use a slippy for harder use.

I think they will probably sell well though based on "knife fashion" alone. Personally I think the Spydercos are more elegant solutions to modern slippies.

Overbuilt slipjoint? Could have just called it a thumb guillotine

But I'm a little interested, I guess. I keep an eye on modern slipjoints due to the non-threatening factor

You might want to check out the lionsteel barlow thread if you haven't already.
Bingo, they also have a Shuffler due out in January (tentative date).
Rambler: M390, Ti liners and bolsters, 410SS screws and spring, adjustable pivot, and multiple scale options.

I love my Euro-Barlow (same as the Shuffler but with a spear)

Edited for name correction.

Yes, the Roundhead is sweet. I've reserved a micarta Shuffler as well.
I kind of like this new Hinderer Slippy and might try one out. I'm a fan of 20CV steel. The only thing I don't care for is the thumb stud. The concept is neat but it just looks too funky. If I get one I'll probably remove that. I've got a 3" XM-18 and Half Track inbound so my impressions of those will probably dictate if I get a Slippy. whitty whitty what do you think of the Slippy?

But those Roundheads...

I am just not a slipjoint guy either but these are pretty sweet. I am sure I will end up carrying one at some point just to be able to talk to customers and give them feedback. I have been amazed at the amount of interest in these we have received. I do know the overseas crowd has been very excited about them, so they will definitely be a success for Hinderer in the global marketplace! They are very well built!

I've been eyeballing that red one on your site but I want to see if my incoming Half Track and/or 3" XM-18 successfully kick the CRKs out of my pocket for any time first.

I will be curious to hear the results on this!

I don't think the chances are good. I always have a small Inkosi in a sheath on my belt and other CRKs rotate through my pocket (large/small Sebenza 21, large Sebenza Regular, or a Sebenza 25 currently). They have pretty much kicked all the Spydercos, Benchmades, ZTs, etc. out except for a few notable exceptions.

Anyway (to steer myself back to the topic), I just saw your video on Instgram of the Hinderer Slipjoint and someone asked about potentially "waving" it. Did you happen to try that? I've never really used that feature on anything except my Spyderco Karahawk but I could see some people being interested in that. Since the thumb stud is adjustable it might be possible to position it for optimal leverage to do that too.

These are really stiff so I think the only thing that will happen is my already torn up pocket will just get ripped to shreds and a big piece of my pants will be attached to the thumb disc. Unless these loosen up big time there is zero chance of it accidentally opening!

That makes sense. When I owned/carried Emersons I stopped waving them because even those seemed to be wearing my pants quickly. I was just waiting for the nub to start a little hole in the material.

The slipjoint aspect of it doesn’t do a thing for me, but if they’d of made it into a lockback, my card would have been out already.

I have had a lock back Hinderer XM-18 Prototype in my hand. If I remember the story correctly it was the first or second XM-18 Rick had ever made. He had sent it off to a company to see if they wanted to mass produce it. They rejected it. Rick changed it to a frame lock and the rest is history. I have never asked but often wonder if he would ever consider making them. Might be a good question for him next time we talk!

Interesting. I think an MP-1 with a Tri-Ad lock would be pretty neat.
