Well, got one bad feedback on the Buck Intrepid that I expressed some interest in.

You see, just looking for a fighter/survival type knife to keep next to the night-stand, something to take on long trips, family road vacations, you know something to keep under the seat.

Unfortunately cost is an option.

I just looked at a Kabar Next Generation Fighter that appealed to me. What do we think about that?

The point is that everyone views survival differently. For me the intrepid would probably be more of a dive knife than a general survival piece - water survival perhaps. That 420 series steel offers good corrosion resistance. Not the best in edge retention - but that's the trade off.

The Ka-bar is a classic field knife design. It will work, but there are many good choices for a general purpose knife, look around before you buy.
