Well, they did it again, this time it's.......

How about this I ordered a crink, I crank the crink, I was not crunk from
cranking the crink?

Mezcal, a little crink will do ya'?

Speaking of international trade:
I also can remember a certain forumite mentioning that they get the real
Cuban cigars rather easily in their zip code.

I guess that in theory you could say that Tequila is some kind of mezcal, like Champagne is some kind of sparkling wine.

In practice the cactus in mezcal is different and there is also some difference in whether or not smoke is involved in the process (this is also a difference between Irish and Scotch Whiskey, I've heard), mezcal tends to be made in a more rudimentary or traditional process.

I feel that "Corralejo" from Guanajuato is a Tequila with a slight smoky flavor a bit like mezcal, I like this one too.

Luis

Is that from San Lois La Paz Guanajuato? I had a friend from there.

I think many people make the mistake of using a "smokey" mezcal/tequila in
a mixed drink. All you wil taste is the smoke.

And do sip or shoot your tequila? I always prefered a decent drink, smaller
than a shot size.

Thank you guys for your nice comments, I was just thinking that the stuff commonly mentioned here, Tequila and Crown Royal are from out across the US borders, now I need some good Bourbon.

You had to mention cigars, I have smoked a cigar a day for over 30 years and think that Cuban cigars tend to be overpriced (they are legal and common here), about three times as much as an equivalent Mexican made (though the best Mexicans normally use foreign wrapper).

I have relatives from my mother side in Guanajuato, in Leon and San Miguel de Allende.

I always take my Tequila in small sips, I feel the fast full shot is some kind of macho thing and misses the true flavor, I don't care much for the worm in mezcal either.

"No somos machos, pero somos muchos".

Old Mexican saying.

And this word just in via back channel from our (non) sponsor. A new pattern is due to hit our shores any time now. I am not at liberty to say just yet what the pattern is, but it is very desirable to collectors in it's original form. And it was made from 1971 through 1983. And revived for an encore run in 1990-91.

In other news, I have seen closeup pictures of the 15OT tangstamps. Simply SCHRADE on the right aligned with the front of the handle and angled to the blade, and 15OT on the obverse with the same allignment.

Here are the original tangstamps I have documented:

1. SCHRADE - WALDEN > N.Y. U.S.A./ 15OT (perpendicular to the blade) PAT. PEND. (1/16" etch parallel to blade left)
2. SCHRADE - WALDEN > N.Y. U.S.A./ 15OT PAT. ^ PEND. (perpendicular to the blade all stamped)
3. SCHRADE - WALDEN > N.Y. U.S.A./ 15OT PAT. ^ PEND. > serial# (perpendicular to the blade all stamped)
4. SCHRADE - WALDEN > N.Y. U.S.A.(parallel to scale front edge)/ 15OT PAT. ^ PEND. ( perpendicular to the blade all stamped)
5. SCHRADE - WALDEN > N.Y. U.S.A./ 15OT (perpendicular to the blade all stamped)
6. SCHRADE > N.Y. U.S.A. /15OT (perpendicular to blade, read from the handle)
7. SCHRADE > N.Y. U.S.A./ 15OT (parallel to scale front edge, angled to blade)
8. SCHRADE >U.S.A. 15OT (parallel to the blade in front of rt thumbrest)
9. SCHRADE >U.S.A. 15OT (parallel to the thumbrest angled to rt blade)
10. CRAFTSMAN >U.S.A. (perpendicular to blade rt read from tip)
11. CRAFTSMAN >U.S.A. (perpendicular to blade left read from tip)
12. CRAFTSMAN >U.S.A. (perpendicular to blade rt read from handle)
13. SCHRADE+ > U.S.A. LTD. (parallel to the thumbrest angled to rt blade)

So..... if you know these, you should have no trouble knowing if you are looking at an American Schrade, or an imported knife. Also, the imported knives so far are all stainless (no "+" mark).

There are eight thumbgrooves on the imported version. The originals had a number of grooves varying from nine to fourteen.

The imported version has the "SCHRADE" over "SUPER SHARP" etch on the right blade, the originals, as far as I have seen, do not.

The "sawcut" of the scales has a different appearance, more so under magnification. On the U.S. Schrade, the grooves are wider than the lands. On the imported knife, the grooves are narrower than the lands.

Just thought I would bring you a little news.

I was recently on on a site that was taking pre-orders for the Taylor 15OT. I also saw on eBay today, a new Taylor China made LB1. :(

Phil, I cannot confirm or deny that. I could tell you but then..... :D I may get early details on the new pro... knife and if I do, I will post them.

Judging from what I have seen, there is no attempt being made to make exact copies of the Imperial Schrade knives, so an informed buyer should not have a problem diferentiating a new one from an old one. Caviat empter for the uninformed buyer, but a large portion of those don't care, price is the bottom line. All I can do is to spell out the differences here and let people make their own decisions. It is disheartening that there is no country of origin stamp on the knife, at least that I have seen to date. I am trying to get closeup pictures of all the tangstamps and other details of the new knives.

On another note about these knives, from what I have seen of them, the quality of fit and finish is not the shoddy stuff we had seen in the past. Utilizing our machinery, methods, designs (and materials?), the chinese cutlery industry is making major strides now to manufacture a product that at least appears equal in quality to a U.S. production knife. So for the people who insist on buying chinese knives, this is good news. For those of us concerned about the future of the North American cutlery industry, not so good news.

I still cannot bring myself to purchase one of each to examine and test them. But here is the list that I have acquired of the fixed blade patterns now being made overseas for Taylor Brands LLC.:

1. 152OT
2. 153UH
3. 158OT
4. 167UH
5. 15OT
6. 143OT

In spite of the flag on the box fiasco, the new Taylor knives are easily distinguished fron Imperial Schrades by their markings. The normal protocall is to have SCHRADE on the tang blade right, and the model number on the tang blade left. While there is not a country of origin stamp, here is the Taylor Schrade blade etch usually found blade left (at least on the first production knives)
