After having my beloved large micarta sebenza for less than 2 weeks, the lock bar has traveled to 100%.

I still don't have any play, and the lock bar doesn't hit the scale (stops at the end of the tang).

What is my course of action? Wait until play develops?

The spec is 50% - 75%. I'd send it in to the shop for that reason alone.

Your sebbie is out of specs and there's something wrong for sure. Send it in and it will be fixed for free. Try to contact CRK by phone or email before you send your sebbie in.

I've called probably 6 times this morning, it rings for a bit then goes to a fax sound. Yes I called their phone number, tried their fax number for good measure also.

It's going back, unfortunately.

Didn't even mention the fact that it sticks like hell. I just learned to live with that.

I'm not going to say anything bad about CRK because frankly I'm not that kind of person, I will say that I'm disappointed though. I love my seb, so it's hard to have to send it off so soon.

Have you disassembled it recently. If so try taking it apart and putting it back together.

Make sure you assemble the handles first and then put the blade in.

Make sure you tighten all the screws tight.

I've noticed if one screw is loose it could throw the whole thing off.

+1

Not tightening a screw down enough significantly affects lockup.

Where was the lock up when you received it?

About 85%. Made a thread on it the second day I had it. With pics.

Yeah I've tried that. I know how to do the sebenzas since I've had smalls before. When I reassembled the knife, the blade action was much more smooth, but the stickiness and late lockup remained.

I emailed CRK requesting that they call me. We'll see what happens.

Sorry to hear that, CTS, especially with your excitement surrounding receiving it. Seems like recent-manufactured Seb's tend to have late lockup like that. I'm sure they'll work it out with you. Just stinks having to be without your knife while it is at the Motherland.

Prof.

I'm sure they'll take care of you!! when it comes back from the spa let us know how everything worked out.

The bad news is you have to send it end, the good news is, you have someplace to send it to and they will make it right. A little inconvenient right now, but very convenient to have a life time warranty that is backed. There is a silver lining here!

It's no fun to send a new knife back for repair, but stuff happens ,even with a Sebenza. You were just the unlucky one it happened to. They should get you all fixed up and you can move on from there, with a well working knife.

I'm curious about Professor's comment because I am under the same impression from personal experience. Does anyone have any inside information about a change in what I would call "lock geometry", i.e. interaction between blade and lockbar?

Yep. I have some info straight from the horses mouth, so to say. I talked to Anne last night on the phone - and she told me that the latest runs of sebenzas have been changed a little. She quoted me the 50-75 percent rule, then she said that she's pretty sure Chris has changed the way they lock up so mine *could* be considered normal, pending pictures.

I hope it isn't wrong of me to repeat these things, as I wasn't told not to. I have a speculation about why there is a sudden change in the lockup, and it has to do with a certain youtuber named neptuneknives.

I hope they didn't change what two decades has shown to be a good design to satisfy one idiot with a camera!

Nonetheless, it would be good to know if such late lockup should be considered correct for new Sebenzas. Could I trouble you to post the picture you send them along with the response when you get it?

Your complaint has nothing to do with the function of the knife...it cuts, locks, opens, etc. Why worry about some specification, particularly one as wide as 50 - 75%? Believe your personal experience...the knife works. Just use the knife until it doesn't work properly, then send it in.

He says it is now at 100%(started at 85%) and sticks like hell. I would not be satisfied with it as is and would send it in.
After all this is a new knife(or at least I think it is since he said he only had it 2 wks), not an old user.

Thanks, and yeah the knife is brand new. Birth card says it was born in late July. The hostility isn't really warranted since I am not bashing on CRK, but thanks for your input brownshoe.

I will post the pic I send to Anne in a few minutes.
