well i just made a deer antler knife for a guy, called him and come to find out from his brother that he is in a padded room for a month or so.
(wow , i must have to high a price) what would you do? sell it to someone else, just hang on for a while ? it not hurting me. just taking a look at what you would do.

I'd hold onto it. If a buyer came along and offered a better price then sell it. The guy is in hospital for a reason and may not have ordered it "in his right mind" If you try to exact payment from him now, you might get burned.
If he calls when he is out of hospital, and asks, stall and start on a new one for him.

If it's not hurting you to hang on to it, hang on. Once your buyer is available, ask him if he'd still like it, and tell him it's OK if he changed his mind.

Getting locked up in the looney bin is a pretty decent excuse, after all.

I think that with the knowledge that he is mentally unstable it might be a bad idea to send him a sharp object.

I agree, I wouldn't even consider for a second to sell someone a Knife who isn't mentally stable. It's like doing a backround check before purchasing a gun... except your check was free. If that person hurt someone or himself, you might feel responsible.

If the guy is unstable or otherwise mentally unhealthy it might even be illegal to sell him the knife. At least it is here in Texas...

Well i 'm thinking of holding it till a buyer comes along and then when he is ready i will just make him another one.one thing about it he's not like a knifemaker, he will have papers to show he's sain.

Agree, even if its not illegal, its going to look really bad if he uses it on someone, and since you knew about his metal problem before shipping lawyers could have a field day with you in civil court. DONT SHIP!

I agree with Nuke. Just look at what bottom feeding lawyers have done to gun manufacturers when someone committed a crime with a firearm.
You have provided proof that you knew this guy had a mental problem. You could be hung out to dry in civil court and probably lose everything you have, or ever will have.

It's not a good position to be in for you. For your own protection, find another customer.

Ignoring the worries about what he may or may not do with it, it is just plain a bad idea to sell a knife to a person with mental problems. I regularly turn down offers to make a knife from people that I am not comfortable with. Sell the knife, and if the person ever inquires (unlikely) then simply say the knife was sold, and you are are sorry, but you can not take any orders at the time.

its was just for show, not for hunting. just to set on his desk.
maybe I'll just pretty mount it inside a plastic box. that way he gets it and can show it off but out of his hands.
