Wenger vs Victorinox

Original or not original? which is better ? There is a simle answer ..... They are both made in china

You are quite wrong on this matter!! NO, they are NOT made in China!!!

I can sum everything for you. You could go ahead and read all the previous threads, or you could read this post. Most everyone agrees that Victorinox has a better build than Wenger. The only advantage Wenger has over Victorinox is the scissors. Feel free to read the other threads if you want, but I am sure you will come to the same conclusion.

They're both great. Wenger has some nifty innovations....superior scissor design, locking screwdriver and a technique that makes the main blade more difficult to close.

I have one Wenger and one Victorinox and one Leatherman. I often use the Wenger when I go hiking as it is the most practical!

Before I even knew anything about knives....I preferred Victorinox knives. I never knew why I thought so, I just did....and I'm glad to see that my instinct is right, most people seem think they are better.

I like the selection of models Vic has, they have more models that suit my mood and needs

There are indeed a lot of people who do think Wenger scissors are better -

You might want to look at this BFC thread for lots of discussion-

SAK Scissors - Wenger or Victorinox?

and in particular Jeff Clark's Post #14

I prefer Victorinox, but as stated here both are great knives and neither are made in China.

Get your facts straight before posting stuff like that. ;)

I also like the Victorinox scissors way better. I hate the serrations on the Wenger and I hate how the scissors move.

Fellows it has been interesting reading this thread... But, if you want to learn a little more history on both Victorinox and Wenger, you can take a look at the "History" page on my web site and also the pages for "Victorinox" and "Wenger." In my opinion the two brands have comparable materials and workmanship. Both brands have pros and cons with particular issues... I agree with most SAK enthusiasts and choose Victorinox over Wenger on many of them... But, overall the race is only won by a nose... Wenger seems to be earning more respect recently with its new Evolution series...

I like Victorinox, because it holds a better edge than Wenger. Somehow I really have trouble putting a sharp edge on Wenger knives.

Victorinox and Wenger are both high quality SWISS MADE KNIVES!!!!
You are absolutely right they are not Made in China. All the components are made in China then they are assembled in Switzerland so Yes they are Swiss Made. It's a well known fact in Switzerland I can't believe you guys don't know that. According to International regulations a product can claim Made in (insert nation) if it is assembled in the particular nation but the components don't have to be manufactured there.

That's true to some degree. But for a product to carry the Swiss shield and to claim it's Swiss made it has to meet a 1931 law, which many now consider a useless relic, prohibits the use of the federal cross on any product not so licensed by the Society. To qualify a product must be more than 50% manufactured in Switzerland.

Based on Victorinox's history and tradition, I highly doubt ANY part is made in China...

Don't know about quality, but I've always disliked wenger's comparatively pregnant logo. But atm I'm anti whoever is putting flash drives on their knives... both of them?

I've held a Chinese SAK knock-off, the finish work was not even close to what you get in a Victorinox SAK. The action was overly tight and rough, and the blade edge was toothy -- it was awful. Besides, why would the Swiss have the parts made in China and then import them to Switzerland where the cost of labor is higher. A knife with Chinese parts would be assembled in China.

I've yet to come across a Chinamade SAK that's well made enough to trim and file all my fingernails perfectly without loosing its sharpness or spring tension within a week.
