I thought I'd search for edible plants today. First thing I found were cattails. Only one was ready to eat. But when I approached them a deer rustled out of the center. It took it a while to extract itself from the cattails. If I was hunting it would have been an easy kill.

Hiked along the diversion channel.

Plenty of prickly pear to eat.

Good terrain for finding deer.

Most of the shrooms I found were dried up and already eaten. Guess I'm too late.

This game trail would have been a good place for a snare.

Some of the views.

This deer vertebra would have made a good handhold for a bow drill.

Finally found some shrooms. Dried up but whole. I think they are matsutake...but that has yet to be determined.

Took a break on a huge boulder and took some pics of my toys. Buzzing around the rock were several dozen large dragonflies. The Maxped pouch is a PSK I'm still filling up. I need to add first aid and water treatment stuff as well as some other things.

Outstanding pics! Euell Gibbons books are excellent, nice slingshot too.

What kind of pouch is that? Does it stow alot? Great pics bro, you live in a great area.

nice pics, thanks for sharing.

i can't tell if the cords on that sling are twisted or braided? if they are twisted, i recommend replacing them with braided, i think that they give you alot more accuracy and control, becuase twisted cords tend to twist during windups. not a problem with certain throwing styles though...

Excellent pics and narrative, thanks

"Exploraging", what a great "word" :D

I'd be more interested in that edible venison! Too bad it's still on the hoof!

That really is a nice kit there! Maxpedition M-5? Thanks for the pics! -Matt-

Great little tutorial! These pics are great. Kind of like flash cards for keeping the memory up. Great shot of the deer too!

Ilbruche, in addition to being a craftsman, you are clearly a man of taste and intellect......;) Great Pics, BTW.

Excellent pics bro, You shoulda gave that deer a shot in the keester with the sling shot, that woulda got em moving.

Colorado is beautiful place!

awesome pics B...

colorado is such a beautiful state.. it's got some pretty diverse terrain, not to mention the 50 some-odd 14ers...:D i love it... i would move there in a heart beat, but the misses isn't into it.. she claims she would never see me, i would always be gone climbing, hiking, mtn. biking or bowhunting...:o

Nice country

That stand of cattails means food any time of the year. Plus tinder, friction fire drills amd decent baskets and materials for fish traps.

It a H1 waistpack. I like it because it has a draw string closure. Holds 4 altoids tins in the main compartment with room for more stuff.

Don't worry dude, it's a Japanese braid.

Shhhh. Don't tell anyone.;)

Maybe I am wrong, but that looks just a little up North of Pikes Peak? I used to live in Colorado Springs near Ft. Carson and in the 3 rd grade, I hiked up 12 miles to the cabin with my dad. Half way though, he had to carry my pack for a bit. :p

We got so tired once (we hiked it about 3 times), that we decided to set up camp on a hillside LOL. He warned me it wasn't a good idea, but there were miles of incline and even though we spent almost an hour trying to find a decent recess, we just said to Heck with it and camped laying slightly askew. I woke up 3 times outside the tent from having slipped down the hill a little LOL.

On the first trip we made, I woke up to something crawling over my face, and I sat up and looked down where my back was resting and saw a lot of little bumps. I blew on it and they ALL moved (more like scattered every which way). Being at the tender age of 9, I immediately busted out of that tent and did the heebee jeebee dance. My dad laughed at me and said it was no big deal. I couldn't believe he continued just laying there. Even now, if I see a spider crawling on me, I sometimes freak out lol. Just something about all those creepy legs. BLUH :p
