we took ourr trip down the west fork of the white river in indiana. the trip only takes a couple of hours but we took some time so we could say the night. i had a lot of fun practacing the fire making trade. the firesteel is the greatest. we made our shelter in between 2 large fallen trees.
(the whole setting on the river was surreal, i could look at roots of trees that had been washed over, under and around for years and envision things living there, twisted little bodies waiting to escape their wooden prison. the current carries you so swiftly, the large tree stumps look like they are passing you, inviting you to come straight towards them, an almost certain crash. listen and you can hear peacefulness, the crickets, the spyders, the byrds, hear the frogs and insects call out and jump in the bubbling current.

the only shelter we brought with us was a old rain fly from a tent it's lite and has bungies on (it for quick set upgreat fur )
this was a great item. we used it as a roof. and hung it from side to side with two very long sicks. we slept in sleeping bags in a sandy beach, on three side
we were surrounded by lager sections if their trunks.

Looks like a good time! I'm an Indiana resident myself, whereabouts are you located and where do you usually do your woods bummin'? I'm in Indianapolis. We did a canoe trip on the White River north of Indy a month or so ago, and have made it down to the Charles C. Deam wilderness for one short overnight hike so far this year. I'm planning on a few more hikes once the weather cools off a bit more. Would have gone this weekend, but I've been sick and figured it would be better to take it easy and not exert myself too much. We may still go for a day hike tomorrow if I'm feeling better tho.

eastr77 i think you had fun, it looks good, i've had some great trips, but all i had was a 35mm camera, so i have no photos to post, but as i said, i did have 100's of trips and some good times with friends and family.

After all, that is what it's all about, right?, thank you your friend at the post Donald S.

LOL! Looks like you took more knives with you than I have in my entire arsenal! Did you have to add some extra float bags to keep your kayak from sinking? Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

Looks like an awesome trip, the tent fly is a good idea and it looks like a snug little place to sleep. Did you catch any fish? And whatever god or gods you pray to thank them for a wife that will go do things with you. My kind of trip  . Chris
