Took a walk on the carriage roads with my lady today. It's been raining the past few days, so we figured we'd take advantage of the sun while it was out! We went to Duck Brook Bridge, and boy was the water churning!

I took along my usual gear.

Good thing, too! There was a nice little spout of water coming off the rocks from all of the ice melt. I filtered it through a handkerchief into my GSI cup. Some of the nicest water either of us had had in a while!

Lauren really enjoyed getting out in the fresh air, too! It kind of sucked being holed up in the house for three days.

looks like a fun time.
I'm debating myself if I should leave tonight for a night under the stars.. but it's been raining non-stop for a couple days... looks like I'll have to sacrifice

I like how your knife is attached to the strap. Also the fact that it is orientated blade down on the draw. Kudos for bringing your GF with you also.

That's exactly the situation that's been going on here. Lots and lots of rain. Thank goodness it let up for a little bit today.

Thanks! The MOLLE webbing on the strap was one of the things that appealed to me about this bag. My fiancee always enjoys getting out and about with me--so long as it isn't anything too crazy! :D

Sounds like you had a decent day. It was really nice out here today as well, albeit a little windy. Got out and went to the park. Think I will go tomorrow as well. I will try and get a camera, since I am seeing my sister tonight she might let me borrow one of hers.

Looks like you had some fun. How do you like your maxpedition? Do you find the balanse off with the one strap system? It has been windy cold and snowy here, so i am waiting for a warm up.

It's quite a nice rig; the balance is no problem at all. My only gripe is that when I have it fully loaded the snap buckle at the base of the main strap (which is how it attaches to the bag) can rub a bit during extended wear (more than a few hours). I plan on fixing this by making a nylon fabric sleeve that slides over it to spread out the force.

They're Corcoran jump boots. A buddy in the Air Force sent them to me. They took a while to break in (as all good leather boots do) but they're wonderful now. I'd buy another pair in a heartbeat! They've done their job protecting my shins from bumps, scrapes, and water--the tongue is stitched to the sides all the way up. I replaced the laces with foliage paracord, too. :)

Went for another jaunt today with my lady. It was a nice warm day with some dramatic clouds so it would have been a sin to stay inside! We went adventuring out in Acadia National Park by the Tarn and Sieur de Mont Springs. :)

We started at one end of the Tarn. The weather was a little brisk and looked like it might rain, but the sun was peaking out every now and then, so we weren't too worried.

The trees quickly gave way to a rocky trail along the waters edge. :)

We saw the remains of an abandoned beaver lodge. A tree nearby showed some old scars.

The rain from the past few weeks had washed out a section of the trail, so we had to climb the enormous rock slide that made up much of the trail. It was a lot of fun climbing over and under the boulders!

It got pretty warm out, between the climbing and the sun breaking free of the clouds, so we took a short break on top of a giant rock table. Lauren practiced whistling with an acorn cap for fun.

While we were resting I took a quick pic of her favorite piece of gear! :D
TarnHike069.jpg

The turkey vultures were out in force, and we kept on spotting them during the hike.

Lauren took advantage of the warmth of the sun for as long as possible...
TarnHike072.jpg

But when the wind came out, out came the hoodie again! :D
TarnHike074.jpg

I decided the wind wasn't too bad, so I left my fleece off.

A lot of foliage was starting to show itself. In addition to the usual mosses and lichens the ferns that usually fill the area were starting to appear! Spring at last!
TarnHike077.jpg

We turned around once the trail ahead got stopped up with snow. When we started heading towards the springs, we found the way blocked by a large hemlock that had blown down over the winter. No worries, we just climbed under it and went about our way. :)

A little farther down the trail we heard the jackhammer sound of a woodpecker. Sure enough, a peliated was in a nearby beech.

We stopped at a stream to wash our paws.
TarnHike106.jpg

At the spring there were tons of acorns everywhere. A bunch had started to sprout!
TarnHike125.jpg

There was also some mystery scat. :barf: Coyote perhaps?
TarnHike127.jpg

All in all it was a pretty good hike!

She worked as an apprentice at a body art studio for a summer. She got a lot of great work done for free. :D

great pics man... looks like a nice area...

i love making those acorn top whistle's...:)

Thanks all! The woodpecker was a pain to get a shot of. He was up pretty high. We actually used to have a family of them living in a hollow in a poplar tree in our front yard. It was fun watching the little ones play.

We hope to get out to Thunder Hole today. The weather is beautiful, finally!
