I love to shoot and absolutely love the thought of shooting long range. I went to the range today (which meant I walked out my backdoor.
) I have been shooting 300 yrd for the past few years and have become pretty efficient at that range. I am not as accurate as I would like to be but I am consistent at around 3/4 MOA. So I decided today would be the day that I would test myself with a farther shot. I took off across the field in my backyard with a 7 inch disk and 18 x 15 inch steel plate. I set them up at 500 yards and walked back to the house. I grabbed my 6.5 Grendal and laid down in the yard. I got my calculator and pad of paper out and made a few quick calculations. Made a few adjustments to the scope and then settled in. I took about a min. to relax my muscles and steady my breath. Then I pulled the trigger and waited. Never in my life would I have expected to hear the sound of a bullet hitting steel on my first shot. I decided I would take another shot just to see if it was a fluke. I heard the second hit. Looked through my spotting scope and realized that I was only about 6 inches low and 2 inches right of dead center on one of my bullets. The other was 2 inches lower and an inch farther to the right. So I made some adjustments to the scope and settled back down behind the scope. Here is the result of a four shot group.
I am pretty happy with the results. Can't wait to get back out there and improve.
