I know I've been needing to do this for a while, and have always been finding a way to put it off but today was the day. My first NA meeting. Take that as you may.

If you WANT to quit, you can ! I was deeply into booze for several years & realized the effects on my loved ones. Chose a Thanksgiving and poured it down the drain that day. Friends taunted me & to prove my resolve I would act as their bartender. Mouth watered at first but I was a MAN.

Whole new set of friends & bank account really grew after that foolishness. Almost anything is okay in moderation but it's hard not to overindulge .

God bless you for improving your health !

SS. Hang in there. If anything comes up that I can help with, even if it is to talk drop me a line. You have taken the biggest and hardest step, forward is the only direction to look.

What Bastid said. There are people here that can and will help if you want it. Some of us have been there too or lived through a family mamber's time.

Lots of luck.

Went to an NA meeting once because there was no AA meeting available. The NA group was 100 times more dynamic than AA, everyone seemed to be enthusiastic and involved in the program. Hope it all works out for you... I'm nearly ten years clean :)

My biggest regret about getting clean and sober was that I did not do it years earlier. The day will come soon when you realize what a great thing you have done for yourself. Best of luck, SS.

There were times in the past where I'd go on a major binge and want to quit afterwards but then I'd finally go to sleep, wake up and and have crank for breakfast. This time I made sure it's the last time. I left Fresno to stay with my uncle in LA. The people I used to tweak and rave with don't even think I'm alive anymore. I've been clean for a few days over a month and I feel a lot better. I'm putting some weight back on and I actually got into a semi normal sleep cycle. Now I can resume my first addiction... steel. :D

Clearly, I was a victim of the drug explosion. A regular street freak, eating anything that came by.

Quite revealing in that only myself and one other out of the first 26 posts weren't sure what NA was.

I reread all the posts and don't understand how you came to that conclusion.

Edit - Nevermind. I read Larry's post incorrectly. Another senior moment.

Good luck SS. I`ve got a 25 yo son, 24 yo daughter, and a 22 yo son. Between them all, I`ve seen a lot a wierd s#it. Stay the course and you won`t be disappointed.

I'm 23. Seen a lot of crazy sh1t myself  :D :p

Take it one day at a time bro,if you find creative ways to occupy your free time you will be in great shape. good luck.

Good for you, SS! Sounds like you've been learning real fast lately. I'm proud to have you on here.

Lately it feels like a lot of good energy is coming my way. I'm a Druid and my uncle is into the spiritual thing too and he agrees. Just last night, I put my Makora up for trade and within a half hour landed a BM43blk and a AG Russell (I think its a RW Clark folder). Is that a sign or what?

Now all I need is some poon-tang :D
