Decided to experiment on my Warden, so I freehanded some scroll work on the blade with a Dremel...

Then etched it. Stripped the coating, sanded and convexed the blade, and added some jimping and rounded the spine....

Tried some cord wrap, but didn't like it. So I ordered some micarta and tried making my first set of handle scales from scratch! Did some filework on the spine too while I was at it..... And here is what it is looking like today...

....Now I just need to figure out what to do for a sheath, since it will not fit any of the ones I already own! :)

-Thanks for looking!

Thanks guys! That was a fun project, and a good learning experience for me. First time for me making scales from blank slabs, and I'm still experimenting and learning when it comes to etching things.

If I were to do this knife again, I would make the lines of the scrollwork design thinner and more subtle.... I'm sure I'll find a chance to try it again though.

VERY COOL!!!

Now I want to try that when my Rucki gets in :o :D

Funny, I've been wanting to mod my Rodent Waki by shortening and lightening the handle, then working it over kind of like I did this Warden..... but I haven't gotten up the courage yet! :o

Maybe when I get a little more experience I'll give the Waki a go!

BryFry,
That looks awesome. How hard was the Micarta to work with? I need to make some handles and need to mill a slot in them. Do you think it can be done with a file or something? I was looking at the material yesterday over the net which is not expensive but wondered if it could be done by hand or would it would require a milling machine? Where did you purchase the Micarta and what color is that?
