Hello? Steve? Bill? LT? Anyone in here? This is getting to be a habit.

I hope all of you are well.

Phil

Looks like they spent a lot of time and effort on this system for us knife nuts.
Praise should be given to the owners and operators for their efforts.
Hang in there as there could be other unforseen glitches in this new system.
Great to see we are back.
Larry

Hey all,
Glad to be back online. Hope this all works out OK. I'm sure Spark is trying very hard.

I'm still waiting for my 100th Anniversary stockman to arrive, and I see there are 2 new knives up on the Schrade site, a peanut and another nice fixed blade. These are supposed to change every 30 days or so. Wonder when the tickler or fish knife will get the nod? :D

I'm happy to be back with youse guys though. Somebody better wake LT, Don Luis, Glennbad, and Steve, so they aren't late for next class.

Hello everyone, I´m here but have been busy these days working with old fashion cobol, algol, and non-SQL data bases, makes me realize how old I am, at least it has kept me from missing the forums too much.

Also my connection has been very slow lately.

sorry guys,

I was actually doing "work" at work.

As Larry knows, I'm coordinating our cub scout pack's pinewood derby, taking place on saturday, and have been up to my eyeballs in planning, emails, phone calls, etc.

I promise I'll get back to knife stuff next week. :p

Good to be back.

Glenn

This old warrior was bought in florida in the late 1970s. Over the years I gutted, sometimes skinned and quartered, two or three dozen deer with it. And one wild hog. And many, many rabbits, squirrels, and other small game (woodchucks are delicious!). Between hunting seasons, it provided a sense of security and use, stashed beneath the seat of my truck. I'm no knife fighter and don't wanna be, but a few times, when on mean streets, this knife was tucked into my pants, beneath my shirt (for use only if I could not out run my attacker). I went through 3 sheaths with this knife. Obviously, as you can see, after years of sharpening (I like my knives shaving sharp), it's blade has morphed into a Warncliffe. I retired this knife in the year 2000, finally finding a suitable replacement in an out of production Imperial Frontier 422 dropped hunter. With all the knives I own and buy, sell, trade, I could have afforded during most of the years I used this knife something 'better'. The other forums here are filled with posts that the only knife worth using MUST be very expensive, made of some exotic steel, handled in Micarta, and carry a currently (funny how often this will change) favored name of manufactor.

Anyway, I just thought my old companion ought to be brought out of retirement long enough to show you guys.

Enjoy your weekend, all.

Phil

Phil had a great idea (again).
Bring out those oldies for another look!

I carried this little SP3 for many years as the blade shows. It went everywhere with me for well over 10 years. It was a gift from my wife who knew way back then that there was something that I just loved in these little pieces of metal and plastic. If this little knife could talk...

Anybody else got an old one?
I recently posted about finding an Imperia I wanted, the old M7S 'survival knive'. I found it on ebay, had belonged to a SWAT cop. That led to the purchase of a new and never used Schrade version, the BT01. What a brute of a knife! If you recall, LT had some thoughts and insights on that one.

Well, as usual, one knife leads to another. I saw another IMperial M7 going dirt cheap on Ebay, very well used, so I bought it. Yep. It had seen hard use. Tip was blunt, only a quarter inch gone, had been sharpened often and badly, the blackened finish mostly rubbed off. My new user! I made it my project for this past weekend.

I took it apart, first. To get the pommel off, which is affixed just like an old Imperial m7 bayonet, I had to grind down thru where the pommel was press-fitted into the tang. Very good. The hilt guard of these knives are shaped into screwdrivers, phillips and straight. I didn't need those, so very careful work with the dremel tool nicely reshaped each. Perfect fit for my thumb when using. I spent much time sharpening the blade, using a file at the tip to reshape that. I didn't wanna use the grinder, afraid that getting it too hot may disturb the temper. I put a good edge on it, as I like, shaving sharp from tip down to an inch and a half, less extreme to the guard/hilt.

The nail puller/ hammer pommel on the stock version is sticking up, so that when the knive is used to cut (this blade is sharp on one side, sawback on the other) the nail puller poked my palm. That was why I removed it. I note the newer Schrade version has the nail puller flipped as well, so I wasn't the only one that didn't care for it. I reinstalled it so flipped, then used "JB Weld" expoxy to attach it and fill in the depression on the top of the pommel. And I used JB to fill in the gaps (again, just like the original M7 bayonet this was designed from) at hilt and blade/tang. Gave it a nice, finished look.

I gave the knive a paint job, using Rustoleum primer, then their brand of 'camo' paint. It will probably wear off in use, which is not really an issue. Just looks good. Not worth having it sent our for parkerizing.

I replaced the screws and nuts of standard bayonet type checkerd plastic two-piece handle with new stainless steel ones (it had been missing one set), which I also painted black.

The great old sheath is really nice, but the inner plastic blade protector was badly cracked several places. I used super glue, then covered the whole thing with a thin layer of JB Weld. I removed the little metal clip that goes onto the inner plastic sheath, as the sheath does hold the knife secure without it.

And Voila! I have my new / old user. I'll have to take and post some piics. Here is just a real quick scan of the standard stock M7S and my modified one.
