Were talking price points here...

It depends on who made the knife. If it's a "name" maker, such as Strider, Chris Reeve, Jerry Busse, etc. You will have to pay more than a couple hundred dollars.

A knife of this description from one of the above would probably be priced in the $300.00 - $400.00 range depending on the producer. that is what the real market will bear and what they should sell for, especially if made in limited numbers. Production costs and overhead of a commercial shop will demand that the price be high enough to justify the time and expense of the project and make a profit.

If, OTOH, it being made by a "hobbyist" with minimum outlay for tools, equipment, materials and such with limited facilities for testing and insuring quality consistency, then the price could be kept down. It would depend on the maker.

From a commercial standpoint, it takes money to make money and, unless the producer is independently wealthy or has a really good paying "day job", the only way to get that money is to sell at the right price. The only way to sustain production is to sell the product at a price high enough to cover costs, buy new tools, belts, grinding stones, buffing wheels etc., even for a hobbyist.

Just keep this in mind: Strider Knives, in the same category as yours, made of ATS34, heat treated by Paul Bos, have been selling in the $350.00 - $400.00 range for a long time and are always in high demand. That should tell you what the real market will bring for a good knife made by an established maker with a great reputation.

I understand that, starting out, trying to make a name, etc. is going to require a better price point than Strider, et. al. but if you just rely on price alone to sell your stuff, you will go broke. Promotion and proof of quality will do it for you, not price.

No offense intended here folks but asking the customers what they would be willing to pay for a good custom or semi-custom knife (or anything else) is kind of like asking a fox which chickens should be locked up in the henhouse at night. Heck, I know a few who would demand that they be payed to take 'em off your hands. ;)

Class dismissed. :)
