This is a weird question but I don't have experience with g-flex epoxy. I am installing a head/setting into a canvas micarta ring I made for a friend. I will be prepping the gold the same way as I would steel and insetting it into the ring. I guess cleaning everything with acetone then alcohol is the best way from what I have read but am nervous about it not making a solid adhesion to the gold. Does anybody have any suggestions they could give me on prepping it?

You should have no problem bonding gold to micarta with G-flex if your are using the Signity pre-set stones or something similar. Try and avoid getting any resin under the stone. In the old days, I would do the job with a head that has the base threaded for a 2-56 or 4-40 screw, and have the screw seated on the inside of the band. These were commonly used on mother's rings and similar jobs, but are hard to find lately. When I want to use this method today, I just run an appropriate size tap through the head and thread the base. On larger stones, I put a small ball of gold in the base first and solder it in place, then drill out the ball to get a proper size hole for the desired tap size. I make diamond and gemstone set thumb studs and the inlay stones in scales this way.
