Western Cutlery

During the late 80's this one saw a good bit of fish and game action. Touched up and cared for during years of field use.

I have a few Westerns from the late 60's early 70's and they are fine knives. Not a big name like Case, Schrade, etc.. back then but I can find no fault with them at all. I have a couple pen knives that are 30 years old and absolutely mint!

I dug out a few and it brought back some serious memories. All but 1 one these were carried a long time.

I found a lockback like your bottom one a few years ago, only mine has buffalo horn scales, an inlaid shield & the blade is a clip point. It's very solid, well made & my favorite Western.
I also have a few older fixed blades, the W-36 among them.
I usually look for nice ones at gun shows or shops.

Here's a little derlin job I once owned

Here is one more of those.

I've posted it before but it belongs in this thread.

Here is a 648A with I believe a non Western sheath, an 062, and the same 651. Old picture and I still have these knives. Both of the big ones have Delrin handles, and are 1979 editions.

Hal,I have posted a few in the "Old Knives" threads feel free to add them,or link them here if you'd like
Or,if anyone is interested, just search them out in there
Great knives. I used to hunt w/ a fella who swore by them
-Vince :)

Westerns are great. Thanks for the show guys. I always keep my eyes peeled out for them.

Here is a F48A Western Black Beauty.

It is in unused condition, I like these handles better than leather.

Good idea for a thread, Hal. Western doesn't get much attention. And some great examples posted!
Along with a Winchester, here are two Western States Harness Jacks.

Charlie, that candy stripe really stands out. I like that nail nick on the punch and the main clip blade with swedge Both unusual to see on harness jacks

Great looking HJ's. Western probably had more cell colors and patterns that anyone. And I love those Black Beauty fixed blades. They are pretty much of a challenge to obtain in that condition.

The swedges and blade profiles are great on that hunter.

Here are my three. I had another one, a skinner, that looked like a scimitar, that I gave to my son. The top knife in the pics is a 5 1/2" hunter model, with the old Boulder, Colo. stamp. The smaller fish and game knife as well as the hunter are carbon steel, while the linerlock folder is stainless. I carried that knife for years in my coat as a firefighter. It's been dropped, kicked, stepped on, run over, and subjected to all manner of abuse, and it,s still reasonably tight and takes a greatedge.
