Picked up a Western kinfe over the weekend and was woudering about the markings on the blade. Western U.S.A
W36
J
Anyone know the significance of these marks or where I can find out. Thanks

The W36 is the model number...don't believe they make that exact one any longer. The J is part of the dating system and dates your knife as being made in 1986 ('77=A...'78=B...etc.).

Bill, as always, is right on the money. Here is a cut of your knife from the 1986 catalog. Now you know what sheath to go after.

Thanks for that info, Michael.
Helps to see a good picture of the knife and sheath.

DUSTY ONE, I believe the W66 (wood) and L66 (leather) are quite similar, and plentiful, but with a 4 1/2" blade. So make sure any sheath you might find online will take the 5 1/2" length blade. Or, you might have one made by one of the talented leather guys here on the forums.

WOW Thanks for all the help! Very excited to find a sheath now and add to my collection...
