Almost finished with the modifications ala Bill Bagwell on this Western W49 K. I have replaced the handle with Osage which needs final sanding and finishing. Hope to complete tomorrow and will add final pic. Treestump leather. Fells really good in hand, much lighter and faster than original blade.

Good looking knife. The sheat needs fixed now since the knife is no longer a double guard.

I believe they went stainless in the 70's. Is this a stainless blade or carbon?

I must restate, I do not really know if they did go to stainless or not. I dont think they did on second thought.

Whats so funny is this was considered a hunting knife. People do not realize that it was Marble that invented the modern hunting knife and befor that this was the hunting knife.

how do you think I could fix the sheath? Not sure about steel, the handle had a touch of rust on it before I started sanding. will try to research.

When you modify a knife sometimes you have to get a diffrent sheath also. Thats ok, now you have to learn how to make sheaths.

I am most sure it is carbon steel. I believe a few knock off of this knife was in stainless but I believe this stayed carbon steel to the end.

Very nice knife, its something to be proud of.

Here is a sheath, just cut the loop and strap off of yours and tuck it in your belt.

Wait. Wut?

Bowies were fighters. Then the people who really didn't know better (like your "ninjas") started buying up Bowie-style outdoors recreation knives that really didn't work. But they looked totally awesome. There were actual recreational outdoors knives out there...ones that work...and they we popularized, not invented, by Marble.

Nice work on that knife btw, deltablade! I like it!

You still got this picture?? :)

If you have the ability, replace the retention strap with one that is horizontal around the handle, and is immediately above the single finger guard. John
PS Nice job.
