Westinghouse micarta

Funny this thread should happen as I too am looking the almost yellow westinghouse antique paper ivory micarta for a project. It has butterscotch or fossil ivory look to it.

In my research, however, it appears that some early recipes used for certain industrial applications had asbestos and some closer to the 80s did not, at least according to pool cue and duck call collectors whom have entirely lathe-turned calls and ferrules made of the stuff. I still have asbestos based linoleum in one room of my house but it's un-torn and stable... I wouldn't advise grinding micarta that consisted of it but how do you know unless you send off to get it tested? You can get it tested... If you can find a piece for the right price (and desired color) it may be worthwhile to take to a local asbestos disposal company for testing before starting a project.

I will say Sheffield supply's had the closest equivalent called 'antique linear ivory paper' but it would be cool to procure the real deal IF someone has the means to work with the material (not likely). If you want to get a good representation for the Sheffield stuff I'm about 99% certain freedom arms uses it for their ivory pistol grips. I own a FA gun with it and it's fantastic stuff.... almost a dead ringer:

And here's a thread regarding asbestos with people that appear to know their stuff: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=186899

Hey Guys :) In regards to Sierra11b's mention of the Antique Linear Paper that Sheffield sells. I've been using it for ~ 4+ yrs and fwiw, it ages beautifully. Speaking with Ann she told me they have it special made for them, and Sheffield is the only place you can get it. Unlike standard white paper micarta, this material shows beautiful contour lines. It's available in 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8" & 1-1/8" thick stock.

I have several pieces from Ms. Ann from the 90's and when used they are very nice, just put a set on a paring knife for a customer, he was well pleased with the way it looked.

Haven't seen your work in ages, looking good David!

I purchased the remainder of the Westinghouse Micarta stock from Angus-Campbell in Los Angeles several years ago. Bob Loveless talked 'em into carrying it back in the day, they had every kind imaginable. Probably at least 30 different types. Linen micarta used to have a red line running through it -you'd know it was Westinghouse by the red line ...

Place is still cool to check out, and purchase Norplex micarta, I'd highly recommend it ...

What size, type and color do you need? Send me a PM, maybe I can help.

Neat thread.
I gave some vintage GE Micarta to my Man, Daniel Fairly. He knew what to do.
