Hi All,

I've made scales out of micarta and have never had an issue, but I'm making some from blanks sent to me by my customer. It's paper micarta and it warps no matter how I cut it down. I've tried milling and my surface grinder with coolant and without.

The warp is pretty bad as I take it from .24" to
.100".
What I'm doing now is putting it in a vice and applying heat and pressure to see if it will straighten.

Have you guys run into this or know how to fix it? Thanks

I have never had it warped, then again I have never milled it or used a surface grinder.

I use a 36 grit to hog material

I've never had an issue with warping with paper, linen or canvas Micarta, but none of it was Westinghouse. Then again, I've never tried reducing it's thickness by more than half either. Typically, I'll just shape the rough profile, maybe flatten the inside down a little bit, and then epoxy and pin them into place before final shaping, which probably doesn't allow for as much movement, if there were to be any.
