Sounds like WE Micarta to me. I believe Westinghouse was the first to come up with the Micarta type products, and I believe Micarta is a Westinghouse registered name. They were meant as electrical insulators.
I suggest a web search on Micarta. There are several kinds of Micarta: rag, linnen, canvas, and paper. They come in several different quality classes. They usually have a phenolic resin base and layered fillers. I also have some of the Micarta you described, mine is in 3foot by 4 foot sheets 1/4". Makes very durable grips. Not the prettiest but still very usable.

Uh...you boys could send me some of that to try, been looking for some for a while. when you say "baby pooo" does it look like aged ivory?
Thanks,

I have some similar. The color is called "Natural" It is probably linen based.

Micarta is a trade name (like Coke) for the pheloic products made by Westinghouse.
That is why you see other companies with different names for the same type of material.
