I have sort of a thing for alliteration and, well, I have an affection for Westinghouse covers and Westy Wednesday just sounds good to me. We already have Micarta Monday, Stag Saturday, Tue Blade Tuesday, Wooden Wednesday, and so on; this thread is devoted to Westinghouse Micarta on Wednesdays. I've searched for a previous similar thread but can't find one - if you know of one please let me know and I'll be happy to have them merged.

This thread is to post photos of traditional knives with Westinghouse Micarta scales. I am aware there are strongly held opinions about what constitutes true Westinghouse Micarta, whether its provenance can be ascertained, why there is/is not a difference, the science of phenolics, and so on. I am not nor do I want to become the Westinghouse Micarta police, so please just post photos if you have a reasonable belief that your covers are the real stuff; for example, if you are the maker, have been told by a maker, have learned from a previous owner who heard it from the maker, heard it from Deep Throat or "reliable sources", worked for years in a Westinghouse factory making the good stuff, or have some other reasonable belief that the scales are likely to be Westinghouse Micarta. I sure appreciate it when folks also leave a description of the knife with their pics. Let's see some photos!

To start us off is the one I'm carrying today, which might also qualify for a post on Wharncliffe Weekday or Swayback Sunday. Its a Mike Zscherny Swayback with vintage Westinghouse Micarta covers and a satin finish CTS-XHP blade. A wonderful knife to have in the pocket and it has everything I love about vintage Westinghouse scales, plus Mike's amazing attention to detail.

I wish I had one to post David. Westinghouse Micarta has always amazed me and stands above the rest imho. This Zscherny represents the epitome of the subject.

Well it’s turning out to be quite a day - 75th anniversary of the Allied invasion on the beaches of Normandy, Charlie Campagna returning home, Blade Show begins tomorrow, and at the very bottom of importance is the fact yesterday was Wednesday and I missed posting something on this thread.

I am always very moved by the sacrifices of our veterans. My family has participated in virtually every American conflict since the French and Indian War, one of my forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence, and we are well acquainted with the horrors and sorrows of war and the price of freedom. I can’t read accounts of D-Day without finding tears in my eyes. Today’s picture is taken on the flag that flies at my home every day.

I’m hoping to see some other members post on this thread. Maybe next week.

Here’s another Mike Zscherny knife, this one a nice Barlow, in vintage Westinghouse paper micarta.

Jason Taber Nato (Native/Outsider) in vintage Westinghouse Micarta. Per Jason, both pieces (bolster and handle) are from the 1960s, taken from a power plant in Elk River, Minnesota by an employee his father knew. The scale piece came from a light switch and the bolster piece, which almost has the appearance of Bakelite but is clearly micarta, is from conduit through which power cables ran. G10 liners, CTS-XHP blade. This is a great knife in the hand.

If you have some Westinghouse Micarta post it here!

Thanks David!!
At the Oregon Show, I bought it from a woman who's husband passed away!! Probably paid a lot for it!
But it's the first Al Mar I've had! And they are great, nicely made!
