Wet wood blocks

I have a lot of Highly figured maple. I would like to cut it into slightly oversized blocks so I know what I have and to organize it. It's pretty wet still even though it's from a tree stump that's been dead for over 7 years. Can I cut these blocks to size and then wax the ends to keep them from splitting or warping too much?

Cut them A LOT over sized. If you want, i have a digital pinless moisture meter. If you want to mail me a chunk i can give you an exact moisture level.

thanks Ben. I know at this point it's at least half a % above "swamp" so it will be a while before I'm going to be checking it. I have a digital meter which will get me close. Its measuring over 20%. The way my mind works, I need to store it away and forget about it for a while, or I'll obsess over it.

I dry wood for a living and have been wondering if I could sneak handle material into the kilns lol. I run a boiler with 9 84ft long tracks of kilns. We have a small bench top kiln in the boiler office that we use to check total moisture of finished wood.
