At the risk of being stoned I am going to semi-double post this question here as well as in the Axe, Tomahawk, & Hatchet forum. This is because I believe that I will get a different perspective on this question from the members who frequent this forum verses the other. I just got a Wetterlings SAW13H Wildlife Hunting axe and while I am pleased with it, I think I am going to get either a SAW16H or SAW20H also. Any opinions on which is the more functional? How about the difficulty in carrying the 20H in your pack?

Thanks,

FWIW...I carry the 13H in my EDC BOB and I carry a 16H in my long term bag 2/3rds of the year and then switch out to the 20H when winter really sets in...I also throw in my my portable Buck Saw in at the same time.

I've spent a few days in sub zero blizzard conditions with the 13H and did fine...but if I had my druthers and "can" I throw in the 20H when the conditions warrant it.

Honestly any of them will work and work extremely well. The only reason I switch to the 20H is it is a wee bit easier to harvest larger pieces of wood - but again with a buck saw it really is a moot point. I've spent many a day/nites in extreme conditions with the 13 and have managed quite well.

If you have the 13" I would think you would get more mileage out of the 20" Hunter. I have two and love them.

I have the large hunter and planned on getting the 13H wildlife axe to balance out my gear. As far as carrying the 20H, I strap it to the outside of my pack.

i carry both the 13and the 20 the 13 stays in my pack all the time the 20 rides on the out side when im in the woods there not that heavy and well worth the weight. just my 2 cent
