This is interesting...........

But I am a little bummed with Wetterlings. I was at a major sporting goods store near here and saw their Wetterling axes. From the initial shipment, all sold except for three Wild life axes, and I know why. These little axes had their heads canted off to one side or another and or generaly twisted messes. The off set heads were mildly noticeable until you lined up the shafts with the heads etc. Then it was easy to see. And most people paying for one of these axes would likely be discerning in this regard. Wetterlings may be mass producing these axes, or not, but I was really bummed over the shoddy installation, alignments. One axe head also had a substantial concave in the metal and two of them had messed up polls on the back. One poll looked like an inch chunk was ground off of it about a quarter inch deep, really noticable. Yes these axes may be hand forged but man, come on. I sure wouldn't send those buggered little axes out for sale without making sure that everything was lined up etc.

Yes i've also heard but have not actually seen the problems you speak of first hand like you have. Thats a shame i always heard they made good axes and hachets.
I purchased a GB Wildlife hachet and could'nt be happier eveything is pretty much perfect and the maker of each ax or hachet puts his initials on the head.

They also send a booklet with each one with the makers pic and mark he puts on each one he builds. They/GB seems to be pretty proud of their products and rightfully so. Well good luck on your hunt their are some great ax and hachets builders out there and i hope you can find one to satisfy your needs.
