Weyer Photo??????

Yes, makers send their knives to Weyer's studio for photography. Or if they can catch him at major shows (e.g. Blade), Weyer will set up a temp studio in a room and shoot knives there. As to how it got started, I've no idea.

like the guy who takes the pics for the cover of american handgunner....jim weyer has been at the forefront of knife photography for years.....he has the connections and the expertise to get your knife published in all the mags...the knife annual....and his own books....he is expensive...and because of that i dont use his services...but wished i could....today there are a lot of photographers that are on the same level as jim...but a few years back this wasnt so....it got started because he is a knife enthusiast and a great photog.

Jim does take some very good shots when he is in his studio and must be commended but does not always produce the same shots when travelling, probably due to the conditions under which he shoots.

Like Tom I could not afford the expense and time to send my knives to him to be shot so my wife set up her own studio in the rec room and is taking all of my shots and does work for others as well. Setting up and learning the techniques was very time consuming and ran through dozens of rolls of film but it was worth it. She did all of the shots on my web site.

Tom,
I agree about the photographer from American Hangunner!!! His stuff is great!
I know his name but since I dont have a copy of the mag handy I wont try to spell it!!
I shoot all my own photos and get a good one once in a while!!! For what the pros charge you can burn up lots of film to get a good shot!!!!

Jim and his wife Louise have been some of the biggest supporters out there of Custom Knives for a while now. They have made many close friends in the community over the years (reads yes they do have connections).

If you ever get a chance drop by a bookstore and check out the "Knives Points of Interest Books" (Books 1-4 are out there (you may want to use the Amazon link here in the forums)), I think you will get the impression that Jim is an excellent photographer and artist who loves custom knives. Book 5 is due out in October or November. I can not wait to get my hands on it.
