I saw a photo of this. It is intriguing to say the least! Can anyone tell me how this blade is used? I noticed that the blade has 2 holes in the tang and I assume this is for attaching a handle. I read where someone saw photos of this thing in action. Can anyone point me to them?

Also, can these be purchased anywhere?

That's about what I figured reptilezs. I've heard it's already rescued 5 whales.

Here you go spyken.

I'd love to have one to add to my collection of old Spyderco Probes, Mariners and others. Can I get one anywhere Sal?

oh, that's nice. the oil on the blade looks like a hamon! lol....

I don't think it's available for the average user. IIRC it was made in a VERY limited quantity (5 pieces or something) and the serrations were cut by hand.

it was custom made for CALM officers here in australia . CALM designed it , spyderco made it.

I've uploaded the brochure we recently produced regarding this project. You can find it through the link below. In the future it will be released on our site, but for now this is a quick way to get it to all of you.

The Blade is currently not available to the public, it is a special order item only.

It's a great project and we've been honored to be a part of it.

No "shelf queen" here ! Well done Sal and company. A truly remarkable tool......from a remarkable company....with remarkable integrity.

Sal, Taz & colleagues:

Thanks so much for doing this, and taking the time to tell us about it. Just fantastic work. Are any of the blades in use stateside yet?

right on the money there mate :) that knife was desgined by a western Australian knife maker i believe and has been produced by spyderco, the holes in the tang are for attaching a ex tenable pole that allows the operator to stay in safety while cutting the whale free from the rope that hold it there :)

if i remember correctly thin can cut through a 2-3" thick rope in one cut :)

SIRGALANT go and check the "knives Australia" books i believe it was about a year ago there is a acticale about this blade

cheers forrie
