Why are there so few knifes with this style blade ?
It seems to me that for general utility use that this type of blade is very practical.
Also who makes a nice folder with clip in this style blade?
I see that William Henry has the evolution series and offers it with this blade but there is ni clip on the scales.
About the closest thing I have found that I like is the Spyderco Viele knife and I have one of these.

Well, Interesting. That particular knife is not shown in the CRKT catalog anymore.
I also would prefer a knife with better steel than CRKT uses.
One of my other choices is the CRKT WASP even though it is not a true Wharncliff.

Slicer, you could try Boker knives. I have the KLM 3. It is 440C with a black coating (not teflon, something else which is very tenacious). A true Wharncliffe with 60/40 plain to serration. Mine has red/black carbon fiber scales and a titanium clip.

I have carried many times. My main problem with it is that it is so light, I often forget I am carrying it. If you want something bigger, they make various versions in the Christian Wimpf designs. A little pricey, but both Bayou Lafourche and Starknives sell them at as low a price as you will find.

I just ordered a Benchmade Park Avenue today from Bayou Lafourche. I will add a review when I have a chance to work with it.

I'm a big fan of Wharncliffe blades myself and wish there were more options available. They're extremely practical and hold the distinction of being the blade style that's (mis)spelled the most ways by people. ;) Others have mentioned some knives that you might look at, such as the CRKT "Grey Ghost"(hate the name!) and Klotzli. There are also several customs by Elishewitz that have semi-Wharncliffe blades. If you like autos, then take a look at the Dalton Waco. Hope this helps...

I highly recommend Pioneer Valley Knives - they have a really good selection and Daltons: http://216.71.158.68/webcat/dalton.shtml

Here's a picture of the Waco 2 :

Is CRKT's Mirage wharncliffe available in that new Ti framelock Mirage, or just the old liner lock?

Slicer, I happen to love the Wharncliff blade shape and have had several knives that were very well made in that form.

I own the William Henry Evolution and it works well in the back pocket with it's little clip pouch that comes with it.

The Sypderco Centofante is also one that I have and is more or less wharncliff in shape, plus as you mentioned the Viele with the new VG-10 is a good runner up.

I miss my White Wing Warlock....W3, with mammoth ivory scales and CPM-3V blade but it didn't come with a clip but I've always felt that the clips interrupt the flow of the knife handle design anyways and don't really care if it comes without a clip, prefer it that way actually!

Here is a pic of my old Warlock which I'm saving up to buy back :(
sorry you'll have to copy and paste in the address bar to view this pic, geocities doesn't like hyperlinks it seems and my Gold Status is still a few days away before I can put a pic in....

Dandy size and MAN it has one awesome point!!! I know it was scalpel sharp and I inadvertently stabbed myself while moving my left hand towards the knife to close, DEEP into my left thumb. Then a week later, into my FIRST finger! It is a thirsty knife, but I learned to close it one handed after the second time....ok I'm a slow learner ;)

What's sadly lacking out there is a lockback Wharncliffe, as there seems to be a whole host of liner-lock versions. None of the currently available Spyderco versions comes close enough, IMO.

I've tried to convince Sal Glesser to make a Delica-sized Wharncliffe but he won't. In a recent thread where several of us were begging for this blade, his great idea was to suggest having a Rescue/Rescue Jr. reground instead. I'd hate to have to pay to have a sheepsfoot on an inexpensive blade not only reground to a Wharncliffe configuration, but to a plain edge to boot!

Can't find exactly what you want? Have one made, that's what I did. That's why they call them Custom Knives. ;)

WH Evolution (with Wharncliff blade) is my favourite folder while I'm at work.
Thumbs up for it!!! :)
That pouch works just fine when clipped on belt - as I do regulary. It sits there comfortly under my t-shirt.

Man that white wing is incredible!!!
The William Henry is my current front runner though the Dalton's look good. I've really not heard anything bad about the William Henry knifes here on the forum.

Since I want it for an off duty carry knife the Daltons have a tactical look to them and that "devil" on the handle is not what I want.

Custom is something I need to save the money for, I'm planning on getting a MOD Dieter for on duty use and a Michrotech as an alternate when the Dieter would be just way too much knife.
I have a Spyderco Viele but want a knife that I can use to rotate in my collection.

Hey Gary!
Your OTHER old White Wing, the slip joint with the 3V Wharncliffe and wonderful gnarly stag isn't half bad either!;) Yeah bud, you GOT TO get your old Warlock back!

Phil,
I think you MIGHT be the only guy on BF that likes stag more than me. Nice!

Hi Gene, I'm in mid transaction on retrieving that Warlock! Happy Day!

And that one that you have is very nice as well here is a pic of that one!

so we're having a stag loving contest,huh?
24 of my 27 handmades are stag, and I have 1 set of 5" scales left for a future knife. But I think I have to defer to Phil, he be the king. :D

Well My GOLD membership is now TURNED on...so here is that Warlock that will be heading home this weekend to me! Can't wait....;)
