Wharncliffe blade?

I didn't always appreciate the wharnie shape until one day it just hit me. Then... I got it. It's hard to explain but now I really love this type of arching blade shape.
It stabs well, slices great & is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, not to mention simple and easy to sharpen.

Where I find the wharncliffe has an advantage over the sheepfoot blade type is in a multiblade knife where the long radius of the wharncliffe spine makes it more comfortable in the hand compared to a sheepsfoot. Secondarily the wharncliffe has an advantage in piercing applications due to the slender tip. This comes with the somewhat greater opportunity for the tip to break because it is so slender and thin. It's not really been a secret that I am a big fan of wharncliffe blades; I have 3 Case sway back knives, 4 Case wharncliffe mini copperheads, 2 single blade wharncliffe trappers and 5 two-blade wharncliffe trappers, a wharncliffe copperlock and a Case desk knife.

Yep, I like wharncliffes. I'll probably add to the list as time goes on.

I took an old cheap paring knife with a very slim, almost ffg blade and cut it down into a wharncliffe style blade and made a carving knife out of it. It turned out great for my purposes, and stays razor sharp for about 45 minutes of continuous carving before needing to be stropped on my paper slotted wheel. Below are some pictures of the knife and two projects that were carved using this knife only. The ball in a cage was a solid piece of basswood when I started it.

This ball in a ball on top is where the blade really proved its design

TLARbb ~~ your knives just about match what I have -- only difference is that I have a few more SwayBack Jacks than you do and 2 more Wharncliffe Copperlocks than you do. As far as folder blades go I feel like when it cuts it is like Silk in a very fluid motion.* Can't think of anything to match it to or that even comes close in any way.!!

That explains it about as well as I could! They just work, for a lot of tasks. A wharnie and a pen secondary is one of my favorite combos.
