Eagle; Lost wax carving done in a Polomer Resin.
Display;16 inches in width,13 I started this piece as my first try at doing a lost wax casting of a Bald Eagle. The rocks that the Eagle is sitting on I carved out of extruded black acrylic and painted them. After many many hours and days of trying to get the detail of the Eagles wings carved right with the warm clay drooping some thing had to go with it to really represent the word Freedom. So next came the scrimshawed fossil Walrus tusk that I spent MANY hours on with the nine faces of Freedom and that led to the knife. So the more I tried to work on every piece of this project the more upset I became because of the word FREEDOM and I want to be free myself free from this cancer crap.Every thing that goes along with it the chemo,radiation,12 hours of surgery you begin to feel under physical restraint.I"m sure anyone that has it feels exactly as I do.I guess I should be thankful I am still here and not eating daisy roots.Well I tried to correlate the feeling I have into my scrimshaw with the center Bald Eagle (under the fish in the Eagles talons) looking old with ugly feathers a elongated beak and a mean upset sickly look.I think it worked.
Anyway I also carved the Salmon in the Eagles talons out of a piece of ivory. The knife blade is a Warrencliffe design with a chisel grind done by my friend Jack ONeill. You did a fantastic job on the blade Jack and I thank you once again..The Eagle is a polymer resin. The knife handle is a piece of a Inuit Indian sled runner that is a very old relic.I wrapped Sinue through the hole in the handle and attached a small feather to it.The Bald Eagle I scrimshawed on the handle was really difficult due to the ivory being porous and chipping because of its age.The piece of wood surrounding every thing was found on the beach. I am not sure what it is but it sure complimented the whole piece. The whole display sits on a piece of black extruded acrylic with a Eagle and the saying SOAR LIKE AN EAGLE and my name laser etched. Thanks everyone for taking a look.FREEDOM specs are below.

Knife;OAL 10 1/2 inches
Blade;15N20 & 1084 Damascus steel Chisel grind by Jack ONeill with some basic file work I did along with a polished spine.
Handle;Relic Inuit Indian sled runner tip.( Fossil Walrus Ivory)Carved black acrylic spacer backed by copper spacer.
Tusk;Fossil Walrus Ivory 16 inches in length3/4 inches to Eagles wing tips in height and display is heavy.

Asking $5500.00 OBO which will include free insured mail via USPS Priority Mail.If someone does purchase this item and lives within a couple hundred miles of me I will deliver it in person.Payment by money order or personnel check or cash.

Also a small incentive if someone says I"ll take it and if you can find the fish I scrimshawed on a Eagle I will knock off $500.00 on the price. Thanks

And thank you Donnie. Comments are always appreciated by all of us.

Beautiful work! I do all my work by hand so I know how difficult, time consuming, and painful it can be physically after spending hours working on something. But it's nice because you can get lost in it.
Good luck with beating Cancer! Keep positive. Your mind can do so much more than anyone realizes. So keep positive and know you'll beat it!

Good luck with the sale and congrats to whoever gets this beautiful piece of artwork

I must respond here . I know Ray meant well but my name should not be on that blade as I am not the maker . I profiled the shape and ground the bevel , that is all I did .I do not know any thing about the steel , were it came from or how it was heat treated . I know Ray meant well but my name as maker should not be there .

Now I would also like to say that Ray's scrimshaw work is out standing and his creative mind to put these displays together is amazing . You should see the work on that tusk , it is beautiful and took him hours . The Eagle is beyond words that I can come up with .

Fantastic Ray .

After seeing this artwork in person, all I can say is the photos do not do it justice. Great work Ray, as always!
