I have not completed all my other projects, so of course I come up with another one. BF member Greebe inspired me to come up with a Wharncliffe design. My knife will be made from a BK16. I could not sleep(nothing new here) so I drew up a rough outline of my version of a Wharncliffe.

I think that would be a awesome design
One question how do you grind the metal off when changing blade shape, Dremel, benchgrinder, File
And do you dip the blade in water/oil to retain heat treatment/maintain hardness.
Actually 2 questions.

Another awesome mod in the works! can't wait to see it completed Hawk!

Looks pretty cool. It seems like a very ergonomic knife, I also like how the tip comes up slightly.
I'm looking forward to more updates!

Thanks everyone for looking, commenting and questions. 1. I grind the outline shape with a 2x42 belt grinder. all grinding is done with a light touch so as not to overheat the steel. 2. I dip into cold water after each pass. I am a beginner at grinding. It does save time, but there is a learning curve. Professional knifemakers here on Bladeforums are my teachers.
The tip of the knife has a slight upward curve due to the stock blade shape. From the Wharncliffe blades I have seen in person and in pictures most have a straight cutting edge. There are the occasional very slightly curved tips. The cutting edge shape could be changed, but I chose not to go that route.

The Wharny design is a great edc blade. Looking forward to see what you finish on this one, your mods are inspiring.

Looks really neat, can't wait to see how this comes out.
Are you going to re coat the blade afterwards?

Gonna be another killer mod. Look forward to the progress.

And when he says polished, he means POLISHED.

Looking forward to this one. I was hoping to see one of Warrior's concepts come to life, but the concern about the cutting edge is certainly valid.
I think it looks great regardless. The revised, rounded tang should be very comfy.

Did some profiling of the entire outline on the 2x42 belt grinder, there is a Wharncliff in there, then stripped the blade. The blade is now 3.375" Now the real fun begins. I started to even out the sides and get everything straight. The handle is very comfortable. There will not be a swedge, however there will be a 1/16''bevel along the arc of the spine. I will add different jimping. The scales will be walnut with red spacers and 5/32" German silver pins.

Awesome. I think that handle shape would even work for me. You got rid of the part that hit my hand wrong.

That sure looks good, but I think it's time to make your own knife from scratch!
You've got the skills. Are you going to re-coat this one? it looks awesome in black.

Thanks guys for the comments. The blade on this knife will be polished. I'm thinking about another Wharncliffe, though slightly different in black Duracoat.
I was out of commission for a long time due to a left shoulder injury. Then when that was healed, I had a slip on the ice and went down my stone steps and injured my right shoulder. I was making my own designs, but stopped because of lack of mobility. Recently, I went back to modding the Becker knives I had sitting around in boxes so I could get back to work having fun with knives. Retirement is getting better as long as improvement occurs. For now, the future will be modding, my designs are on hold.

Your mods are always awesome John. All of them are flawlessly done and look amazing. I still can't wait to see your finished fighter ;) this wharncliff looks like a perfect little edc. I'm definitely subscribing to this thread!

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks Tim, for your kind words. I have also been making walnut blocks for scales and drawing designs for knives. My wife tells me I need to finish the 11,14 and 16...she's right.
