Wharncliffe folder EDC....

I absolutely love my BM 425 Gravitator. Discontinued so a little hard to find but a great knife with a real wharncliffe style blade, not a "modified" one.

Great Eastern Cutlery has put out a variety of traditionally styled slipjoints with wharncliffe blades. I just got the most recent release in the mail today -- 3 inch Sleeveboard with a wharnie main blade and a small coping/sheepsfoot secondary, with goldenrod bone handle scales. Very very nice looking knife, if you can live without a lock.

Please excuse my curiosity, but why don't you want a liner lock knife, Thro1?
Your decision, of course.

Many makers of gentlemen's folders use liner locks and are excellent quality.

thanks to all the posts....good stuff here, to reply to the above...I would just prefer to be able to shut the blade without my fingers being in the way....I know I could always 2 hand it, but there are times in use when that is not feasible. Also, from my own lack of manual dexterity experience...I have had liner locks fold unintentionally a few times. I can live with it if I just fall in love with a knife....but if I can avoid the liner lock, I'd like to...thanks again for all the help.

....I do not want a liner lock where the hand must pass over the travel of the blade....eg. BM Opportunist....

I know that you specifically ruled this out, but I wanted to say that I received a BM 440 for father's day a couple of years ago and really like it. The liner lock has never been a issue for me in EDC use, plus it has the quickest "pop" opening of any manual knife I've ever tried. It's a sweet little knife that you can regularly find for <$100.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

I very much love my Todd Begg Gents Glimpse that has a modified wharny.

I'd look at the Case line of Copperlocks too. They have options in stainless and carbon steel with Warncliffe blades.

I was going to suggest a Case Seahorse Whittler, since you didn't specifically say that you wanted a single-blade / pocket clip type knife. I also love the Spydie Centofante 4, great knife.

Ironically, I have a harder time closing a lockback 1-handed w/o fingers in the way than I do a liner/framelock.
