Wharncliffes!

Beautiful knives, guys. Wharnies are fast becoming one of my favorite blade patterns, both aesthetically and functionally.

It's funny; every time I show one of these to my wife, she says "oh - it's another one of those backward-looking knives you like so much." :)

Posted separately already, but here's a group shot:

About two weeks ago, a Case Seahorse Whittler hopped into my pocket and now refuses to get any farther than 2 feet from me. The master blade is a thick wharncliffe, with the two thinnest blades I've ever seen (coping and pen) at the other end. The wharnie may be the perfect shape for detailed carving. I used to think that about the sheepsfoot on my Schrade stockman. The wharncliffe retains the straight edge of a sheepsfoot, but with a finer tip. I've never used this blade shape much before, and have been very pleasantly surprised. Anybody else love a Wharnie? What tasks do you find it performs particularly well?

Thanks, Christian. We'll fold the thread into yours.

I think I have to try out a Wharncliffe in some form, whether I manage to get that Case/Bose Norfolk or not. I may have been too quick to abandon the slightly odd blade shape in the past.

Will,

Everything I have seen that comes out of Ken's hands is quite remarkable. He deserves the credit and thanks. All I did was open a box and send off a check ;).

Heyyyy... I'll play!

Kerry Hampton made that one, and I lucked into it in a super-folksy giveaway!

Hiroaki Ohta makes a good one.

I'm a big fan of Wharncliffes but only have a couple of folders. There's been a great selection posted here, thanks!!

I guess you could say I am into wharncliffs.

A better shot of Bailiey's Knife. Those are little pins in that quilted up pearl.
(this knife is "pimped" :D)
