Got my xm-18 wharnie today, my god this thing is beautiful. I've never had any problems using a knife but this thing is a work of art. It is absolutely flawless, a little on the heavy side, but it feels great in the hand. Never had a wharncliffe blade so it might take a bit of getting used to, and my finger is killing me from the constant flipping . I have a couple questions, do I need to lube up the pivot? It looks like there no lube in there and while its super smooth its a little hard to flick? And also I will mainly pack a folder of this magnitude on hikes and what not is there any disadvantages to this blade style outdoors? I won't be skinning or anything maybe just some food prep and random cutting of things haha.

Im trying to post a pic it's not liking the ipad, so ill put one up tomorrow from my computer!

Great score! Disassemble. Then try some nano oil on the pivot, Teflon washers (both sides), and the detent ball and path. Then after you reassemble adjust the pivot to your liking. It will flip like lightning. Also when using the flipper try preloading it with some pressure from you finger then press in firmly and quickly. There are several other threads on assembly/disassembly, lubrication, and the different techniques people use to flip their hinderers. Congratulations and enjoy!

Congrats! I love mine, carry it everyday. What Jensen said ^^, it'll fly open w/ proper technique, no wrist required. It took a couple of days to break it in well but now it's super smooth and opens with authority! Firing XMs open with just a flick of the fingertip gives me great satisfaction. :D

Mine is my first wharnie as well, I kind of raised an eyebrow when I first saw them but this has quickly become one of my favorite general-purpose knives - plus it just looks cool!

Enjoy! Looking forward to seeing pics!

Sorry for the crappy pics....this thing is immaculate. She hasn't cut anything yet I just flipped the clip and carried it last night. You really don't feel the weight in the pocket. I need to take 'er outside and cut some things it's just so beautiful I haven't brought myself to do it. I'm lame I know :p

Congrats on the lottery win, I wish I could say I'm not jealous! Any thoughts on how the tip will hold up? Beautiful blade profile, hard to tell in pics where it might stack up against the spanto or slicer for tip strength.

Thanks
Tim

It's pretty beefy... I would guess the tip or the spanto would be stronger because it stays thicker and tangos have better tip strength. Just a guess tho I really don't know... I would guess you'd have a hell of a time breaking either.

Thats S35VN steel. There won't be any issue with tip strength. If tip strength was in question then the fine folks at RHK would not have put it out there. Great knife, I am thouroughly jealous and I will be purchasing one of these in the future

I like to use the crk fluorinated grease. imo it makes for a great smoothness. flick it frequently using some wrist and in a month it'll flip like a dream. consider buying the armorers tool since it's really the go to tool to fine tune the pivot. play around with the pivot a bit and you'll find it's a very nice flipper indeed.

Okay guys and gals...my Wharnie arrived and went straight under the knife...Ti stand offs/Textured CF scale/Crusader Cross installed before she makes her debut. This bad girl is now slicker than snail snot...used the teflon tape trick on the screw and a little oil for the pivot (as mentioned by a faithful Hinderer Herd member) and she is ready for action. See below for a couple of, soon to be rare, still shots.

That looks awesome! I will do a similar setup with my future wharnie. Textured cf, silver crusader, silver skull filler tab. Nice job!

Very Cool. The Wharnie caught me by surprise - I knew I wanted one well, just because.
Never thought it would immediately become my EDC.
Who Knew! :)
