What’s a good place to buy diamond paste?

Is the difference in carat content between the 4 and 8 oz bottles really noticeable? If it is measured by volume then it seems like there isn’t going to be a huge difference between them?

What ever the case may be I think I’m going to find this stuff easier to use then what I’ve had in the past/

I'm going for the 1 micron spray and the .5 micron. If I get a paste it'll be the 3 micron on a flat chunk of balsa. Keith said he'd have these for the 3 micron paste, when the new site was up, for the first stropping/sharpening after your stones or (what-have-you) sharpeners.

21 carat One Micron
Four ounce spray Retail price: $40.95
Your price: $27.30 Save $13.65!

Eight ounce spray Retail price $42.45
Your price: $28.80

As you can see, the difference between the 4 oz and the 8 oz is just the price of the larger container and adding water/whatever to the solution. Difference is + $1.50 - so I guess it depends on how long your strops are and how often you'll be stropping, since you're supposed to re-spray with each use. :)

Thats not how it works, the carat content is by volume.

I'm not sure I follow. What do you mean carat content is by volume? You can get any of the carat weight he carries, 12 18 or 21 carats in either a 4 oz or 8 oz bottle. The bigger bottle will have more fluid added to increase the volume. But the fluid doesn't really matter it is just the carrier for the diamond particles and it evaporates once it is on the strop leaving behind the diamond. So if you have a 4 and 8 oz bottles each of 12 carat, 1 spray from the 4 oz will disperse roughly twice as much diamond as 1 spray from the 8 oz bottle. So if you use 2 sprays of the 8 oz bottle you can get more coverage with the same amount of diamonds from 1 spray of the 4 oz bottle. The 4 oz bottle is just twice as concentrated as the 8 oz bottle but they both have the exact same weight of diamonds in the container which is 12 carats.

That's why I said a 4 oz bottle of 12 carat is actually more concentrated than an 8 oz bottle of 21 carat and one spray from the 4 oz bottle is going to disperse more diamonds than one spray from the 8 oz bottle even though the 8 oz bottle has a lot more diamond particles in it, 21 vs 12.

If you are talking about the difference between the 4 oz and 8 oz of the same carat then it doesn't matter because you are getting the exact same weight (carat) in both bottles one just has more fluid added to decrease the concentration. If you have the 8 oz and want to apply the same amount of diamonds as the 4 oz then you just spray twice as much as you would have with the 4 oz. At that point the fluid evaporates and you are left with the same amount of diamond particles on your strop and it doesn't matter which size bottle you used to get there.

I think Keith would be best to answer this but if its the way you say it is then the 4oz 12 carat spray would work faster than a 8oz 21 carat spray. From my experiences with diamond compounds this does not seem to be the case, I'm beginning to ponder this question myself though.

Keith has already answered it... on his website.

Now, 21 carat of diamond is 21 carat whether it is in a four ounce bottle or eight ounce bottle. The only difference is the concentration - the smaller the bottle the greater the concentration. The small difference in price between our 4 and 8 ounce bottles is based on the bottle cost.

Re-spray with each use? WHY? Oh...of course! The diamonds are wearing out after stropping ONE knife.。。。 :jerkit:

Or maybe we are just pushing then off the strop? :jerkit:

Do they at least kiss us?

Re-spray with each use?

You caught an obvious error stitchawl. No refunds to anyone who overloaded their strops! :D

My brother is into razor shaving. He told me he uses a quick mist and allows to dry - every few razors that he sharpens. Seems to work for him.

In passing though, I doubt that at .5 and .25 microns, I'd make a dent in my Benchmade 940 S30V edge. Probaby just waste the spray or screw up the strop. That little sucker has the hardest steel to hone that I've run into.

Like I mentioned, Keith at HandAmerican dot com is definitely a honing expert. Give him a call he's very pleasant to talk to.
