I’m a big fan of many ESEE designs. Usually the price point and the designs are reasonable enough so I can understand why others would like a given model even if I don’t.

This sucker comes in around $170 and for the life of me I can’t figure out why this Svord on Steroids would command such a price. What’s the feature here that I’m missing?

Apparently ESEE not only makes nice knives, but they're fans of PT Barnum.

It's brilliant marketing psychology. If people will pay $100 for an ESEE 3, then surely they'll pay $170 for a broken ESEE.

It's the holidays - think of the children of ESEE employees this could feed.

I had a look on their website; the price seems on par with their other offerings. It only seem ridiculous when you compare it to the original Svord Peasant.
Mercy, don’t look there. They advertise MSRP. I got an ESEE 3 in S35VN for like $120, which I think is a really fair price. The allure of ESEE is affordable performance and durability.

I don’t mean to fixate on price, but there’s got to be some kind of rationale.

I looked it up….ugly sheath with tang sticking up through it (would hate to fall on it). Supposedly can use the exposed tang to strike a ferro rod. I like Esee but this one seems like trying to cater to the couch TV crowd that is fantasizing about being on a reality ‘survival show’. They should stick with their proven designs imho

In fairness, yeah, this will probably be more like $120 when it hits the streets. But boutique friction folders are definitely a tiny niche. I guess they've run out of fixed blade ideas.

It also seems ridiculous when compared to the Woods Monkey 'Banana Peel,' which is 11 levels above the Peasant, modular, and still $50-$70 less than this. And you're getting A2 or AEBL instead of 1095.
As a huge fan of the Svord Peasant, the Banana Peel is nowhere near 11 levels above. In terms of functionality, I would say it is zero levels above. But that is a discussion for another thread.

Honestly I’d consider buying one at 50-80 bucks, because I like a good friction folder. The izula is one of my favorite weekend carry knives, so it hurts to see them go so far off the mark.

I love a well done friction folder, but I agree. For the price of that thing you could have 6 or 7 svord peasant knives and be set for life.

Of course that being said, I could have bought even more svord peasants for the price of my small sebenza and been set too.

Ok. I own both. I don't agree. The Peasant is a $20 knife, and is built like one, feels like one. But like you said, that's a discussion for another thread.

It’s 170 already on a… uh… mountain store In Tennessee. I’m floored. A friction folder is just so relatively simple to make, particularly one with no lock.

The sad thing is they’ve been talking about the AGK in S35VN and the CR3.0 in S35VN for like 2 years, and both look fantastic. How’d those get put on hold on favor of this?!

For some reason after seeing this again it made me think of the butt ugly monstrosity that Ray Mears designed with Spyderco.

I love Ray Mears but he needs to stick to survival and leave knife designing to the professionals.
