What’s the HOLE for on the Sebenza handles?

Hey all.

I am new to the CR knives. I’ve never owned or held one. I came to learn a bit more cause I was looking at info and pics for the large 21 and 31. I was hoping he had a Sebenza with a 4 inch, or close, blade.

I noticed on those beautiful Sebenza cases a hole about 1/2” or so from the rear end. I wasn’t able to see any use for it. I haven’t seen it used for a lanyard.

So, would you guys mind filling me in on what the purpose for that hole on the Sebenza case is there for?

Thank you kindly.

For manufacturing. Aligns it for milling or something to that effect. No longer present in the 31. The lanyard hole is at the very end of handle

The 31 barely got rid of the hole.

On all of the models (21 and 31) the lock side has it at the end of the lock bar for stress relief. The inlaid versions of the 31 still have the hole under the inlaid chunk possibly for removal purposes. Only the 31 PJ version (and knifeart versions) have a hole free show side. So overall this hole removal change was really a small change only to some versions of the 31.

I'm a fan of the hole really. Up front on a 21 you have three things to catch the eye. The pivot, stop pin screw and thumb stud. On the back you have three things on the 21. The lanyard pin, the standoff screw and the hole. The pairs of three satisfy some part of my brain.

The 31 knifeart cf models look so strange without the hole even compared to the PJ version.

While I've always liked the hole but didn't mind its absence on the 31, realizing this visual imbalance now is going to bother me.

I think the extra hole in the Sebenza serves the same purpose as the bezel screws on the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak (none).View attachment 1801640

I came to like the hole. With out being too crude, I always thought it was kinda a funny “F.U.” to everyone from Mr Reeve himself:……… “Like……..I know this hole looks stupid and out of place…..…but tolerances come first…..and I can’t make these darn knives as perfect as I’d like to make them without drilling a hole right through the show-side slab……..so here is this hole……if you don’t like it, buy a lesser knife”. Or something like that.

Not sure what you mean here. Those screws are actually structural and go through to the case back. It is obviously pointless for them to have slots cut into them though
They don’t turn, and they don’t need slots. They look silly to me.

Never been an AP fan in general. Certainly doesn’t look bad, but never understood the hype. Personally I think JLC deserves a spot in the Trinity over AP

It's a locating hole for fixturing. Remnant of the manufacturing process.

Alternately, makes for a great cigar cutter if your cigars are small enough

I like mine.....

I dont think its silly looking, but to each their own.......
As a form follows function guy, the SCREWS look silly to me. I wondered if there were nuts on the backside that had a torque sequence. I like the Gold, the complications, the movement, the dial, the bracelet, etc. As you say, different strokes for different folks.View attachment 1802675
