I had forgotten about it since I started lusting over a 20.5, but now I’m interested again. How long were they available and why did they go away? Were they no good? Or didn’t fit in well?

I thought the 20 was the "custom" model, and the 20.5 the mass produced. I believe the 20 is also slightly larger

Am I wrong, or is the 20 the bigger, and 20.5 the smaller model?
The 20 and 20S are both larger than the 20.5. The 20S has a thinner blade than the 20 (the S is for "slim"), but is otherwise the same size.

A couple other differences/variations: The AD20.5 is made in Taiwan. The AD20S run in D2 was assembled in the USA from domestic and imported (Taiwan) parts. Apart from those, all other AD20 and AD20S knives are fully made in the USA.

Knifecenter has them for $125 I believe. I have the CPM-3V version.
I couldn’t justify the cost in what I considered a slightly overpriced base model anyway. Somehow I didn’t have to pay tax and got free shipping for $124.99. I didn’t ask any questions.

AD20 full size full thickness very hard to get
AD20S full size "slim" blade also hard to get
AD20.5 smaller knife, made in Taiwan, comes in AUS10A, D2, or 3V so far

Knife Center has most all 20.5 versions as of right now ($150 D2, $189 3V, $265 3V carbon, $375 3V Text Ti, $315 3V smooth Ti sold out)
BladeHQ has coated AUS10A ones for $125 as of right now

They are sold out faster than he can make them in his US shop and outrageously expensive on the secondary market.

Got my 20.5 in today. There was a scary moment when I was working in the yard. I thought I’d have to cut some visqueen but I resisted. Just kidding, but I did think, “well, this is why I carry a knife.”
I like it. I’ve been eyeing aftermarket scales but there’s really no reason to replace the stock scales other than aesthetics and I haven’t been (very) vain since my mid 40’s.

I’m going to have to renege. I do care enough about aesthetics to get some steel stand-offs to replace the backspacer, but in my defense, I like to ease of cleaning the knife with open space.

Maybe one day I’ll get an Ad20s, but for now my 20.5 will have to suffice. Especially since I reground the blade into a more traditional reverse tanto, replaced the backspacer with standoffs, and I couldn’t resist the 20% off sale at https://originalgoat.com
Pics incoming

When you get your scales, share them in the Den of Demko thread! :)
