What’s Your Pick for a Fixed Blade with a 6 - 6 1/2 Inch Blade?

Hey all.

I have only a few fixed blades. The last one I got was a Becker BK-7. It’s a really nice knife for sure, but it’s a bit too big for carrying while hunting, woods walking or fishing. I’d like to pick up something that can be a general use knife that can serve in all kinds of ways. I’d like to get around the 6 inch blade length.

What knife would you suggest I check out? Do you have a favorite or 2 that has served you well that you can recommend?

Any info you care to give is appreciated.

The Cold Steal San Mai Master Tanto (6") and Recon Tanto (7") are my top picks for fixed blades. But the Recon is the same blade length as the BK-7. I know tantos are pretty polarizing but I find them very utilitarian in my use. If you'd rather have belly, maybe try the SRK (6").

At 6 inches, a Carothers Performance Knife (CPK) - Ultimate Fighter (UF) 1 or 2 in AEB-L or 3V would be my pick for "best in class."

I own a CPK UF1 (AEB-L).

For "best value" in a 6" knife that I wouldn't be afraid to trash, I'd pick a Buck 119 (420HC) instead.

I own one of these as well.

Buck 119. Great cutter / slicer but only a medium in the hard use depart. If I needed a tougher knife I’d buy a Cold Steel SRK in San-Mai. Doesn’t slice as well but definitely tougher.

Cold Steel SRK in [pick_your_steel] would be my choice. I like carbon, so C.V or 3V for me. The Outdoorsman is also a well rounded 6” as well - a Tanto with a more traditional tip.

Hard to say without a budget spec and more details on application, it’s a common and very useful blade length. Anything below look interesting ?
