What’s Your Pick for a Fixed Blade with a 6 - 6 1/2 Inch Blade?

How about a Randall "#25, Camp and Trail"? They will make it in about any reasonable length you like, from 5' to 8".

Orderr it todasy and pay on it a bit at a time for four years or so.

If you don't like carrying a 7" blade, not sure knocking off a .5" or 1" will make a lot of difference. I would suggest maybe a 5" blade (give or take).

Hard to beat the 5" Cold Steel SRK in SK5 for a budget blade at $50.

Too bad the ESEE 5 is .25" thick. I had one, it was a perfect size imo but too darn thick. I got a ESEE 4 instead. Still a great knife.

If you like your BK7, maybe the BK2 or BK10?

Again, the price range is important.

BTW, blade length is not everything. The UF and HDFK in my last pic above have similar blade length. The UF[2], I can “EDC”, the HDFK obviously not. Important for carry during longer car rides, etc.

And finally, pay attention to the sheath you get, and if it fits your carry style. For example, I love the Buck 119, its stock sheath not so much.

Almost forgot about this one, the ESEE 6 HM.
I'm surprised it took this long for someone to recommend an ESEE.

Very good knives for the money.

Having said that, the SRK-C (Compact) with it's 5" blade is about as big as I'd want to carry for an EDC. I'm carrying it now, not sure it's going to work out. I took the OEM nylon belt loop off and replaced it with a Tek-lok so I can carry it horizontally. Time will tell.

Hey all.

I have only a few fixed blades. The last one I got was a Becker BK-7. It’s a really nice knife for sure, but it’s a bit too big for carrying while hunting, woods walking or fishing. I’d like to pick up something that can be a general use knife that can serve in all kinds of ways. I’d like to get around the 6 inch blade length.

What knife would you suggest I check out? Do you have a favorite or 2 that has served you well that you can recommend?

Any info you care to give is appreciated.

Larry...Any feedback from you? What's your budget? Lots of good suggestions here.

Thank you all for the suggestions and pics.

I’d like to stay under $200, if I can. There’s so many that you all posted that would be fantastic. I might just sell my BK7 and save up as I can. I’ve got time till I need it.

Thanks again all.

Even with a budget of $200, I might just go with a Terava Jaakaripuukko 140mm (5.5"). About half your budget but still a quality knife, a few sheath options, and a respectable weight for what you get. If you aren't familiar with the brand, go to youtube and check out some of the vids or use the search function in the upper right. Another great bang for the buck knife.

FWIW, I think 5"-5.5" is an ideal size for a general camping/hiking knife.

Cold Steel Medium Warcraft Tanto in 3V.
Blackjack Model 13 Border Patrol in A2.
Bradford Gaurdian 4 or 4.5

Almost forgot about this one, the ESEE 6 HM.
In the OP's size range and use, this is my recommendation for a production knife. Really enjoyed the Esee 6HM and the regular Esee 6 is pretty nice too. For my uses, I would strip the coating as I'm not a fan of coatings, especially if it will be used on food or future food.

A buck 119 would be high on my list if you also want to process game with it as it's a better slicer than the Esee 6HM. Now that they have the pro versions, it's even more compelling.
