What 2 knives for my Safari

I am going on a Safari next year. I am planning to take a nice Bark River and have the guide use it on whatever I kill. To me, hunting screams, "Fixed Blade!"

I agree about taking something to make a memory with. I wouldn't take something I couldn't live without if it were stolen, but I plan to take something nice. :)

This is from a couple years ago when I went on a photo safari. :)

My wife and I are going on a hunting safari in South Africa in August.

First of all, sounds like a great trip! Enjoy it.

If it were me, I'd bring a small, fine folder like a GEC White Owl or Case peanut and make sure the pen blade was laser sharp in order to cleanly slice off the end of the Cohiba I'd be enjoying after dinner each night along with a glass or three of whisky.

Lastly, just thought I'd point out that that is one gorgeous knife/sheath combo in your photo.

Interesting thread. Somehow never heard of Capstick. I like the idea of a fixed blade and a slip joint, as for most outdoor adventures when weight is not a concern. I also think the knives should be memento worthy. Theft seems to be a concern especially from customs as I assume the knives will be checked. Could you put them in a lockbox of some sort. Are you taking your own guns or camera equipment?

I am bringing a rifle and my knives will be packed in the hard rifle case. Electronics will be in my backpack

capstick was the author of "death in the tall grass." the guy who hunted killer lions. not a job i'd like to take on, even with super premium insurance. imagine going after a lion in tall grass ---at night, armed with with a double rifle with ivory (night vision) sights.

I read Death in the Long Grass, but from what I remember Capstick didn't hunt lions at night. He'd stop and hole up (tree up?) for the night and then continue in the morning.

Honestly, I think you should be fine just with the Cripple Creek...but I would probably bring a fixed blade as well.

I would also take a nice fixed blade to compliment your folder. I'd also try to see if you can take part in the clean up of the kills. I think taking part in the whole hunting process is important from both a learning experience and respect to the animal. Just my humble opinion of course.

I'd take a Tony Bose wharncliff trapper and a Loveless drop point hunter if I could, but I digress.

Good luck in choosing what to take. The possibility of losing it would be my biggest fear. I would have to take a folder and fixed blade along. You gotta have SOMETHING with you ;)...

I have a drop point hunter from Bark River but I really don't want to bring it.
