All cut for 2010, which is the 3 in your opinion will be the most sought after as time passes?

My three: (not in any particular order)
C116CFP – Superhawk Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C10GPFG – Endura Foliage Green G-10 PlainEdge
C124GPFG – Barong Foliage Green PlainEdge

Hmm, great question. I'd go with:
C41CFP – Native Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C78PBK/C78PSBK – Native3
C113GP – Caly3 PlainEdge

The 3 that I'm picking are the C-111 Captain, The Superhawk and the combo edge Spyderench. Those 3 may not match up with what many of you here would pick but there are many aspects as to why those 3 will do nothing but gain in value and popularity.

I'm really taken back by the fact that the Captain and Superhawk have been pulled. It seem to me they were both really getting well known to the user and collector communities both and being received well by both as well.

Oh I'm sure you'll be able to get both of them easily for at least a year or 2 before they become cult classics like other non-conventional Spyder blade designs. But I have no doubt that Spyderco has more super stuff coming down their pipeline.

I have to say I really believe the Superhawk is going to be very sought after down the road.
It's very well made, has nice grippy carbon fiber handles, a wire clip and it's a compression lock. Based on other discontinued compression locks and factoring in the rest, I believe it's going to be up there in desirability in the coming years.
In fact I just ordered a fourth one. I had a voucher with Paypal to redeem and after looking over the list decided the Superhawk was the one. Captain and small Persian are two more I believe will be sought after and the Khukri in time because of it's very unique design.

The 3 I would pick are:
C41CFP – Native Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C116CFP – Superhawk Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C105BMP – Persian Folder PlainEdge

I have owned or currently own each of these.

The Native is classic Spyderco. I have heard of people having problems and also seen the marks on the liners. The Native is great, the CF Native is just as great in a dressed up package.

The Superhawk is about the best hawk bill blade I have ever used. Great big grippy handles with one of the greatest lock ever produced by Spyderco. I ended up selling it to my dad because he wanted it for his job.

I love my Persian. I just sold one on this board. I am sure the new owner will love it also. This knife just feels right to me. If there was one thing that I did not like about this knife it was the clip, so I removed it on the one I kept.

I don't think any of the Native models will be very sought-after... there's a Native 4 FRN version coming out and who knows what other variations.

Based on the past discontinued version, I say the SpydeRench will go for big bucks later on. Probably the Superhawk, too. Not much else though.

I'd sub the Khukuri in for the Native3, otherwise I'd guess with you.

Anyone got a dart board??? :D

Hmm, great question. I'd go with:
C41CFP – Native Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C78PBK/C78PSBK – Native3
C113GP – Caly3 PlainEdge

I also am guessing that its production numbers were pretty low, which will make for more determined demand in future years. I'd buy one but I honestly can't think of anything I'd do with it other than sit here and admire the design, materials, etc., and I've got enough great blades that I'm not quite over the hump yet on this one, sadly...

I do believe it has all the makings of a cult knife.

Native IV- the C41 has a strong collector following, so a short lived high end version should eventually appreciate in value.

SmallFly MIM - short lived, and with the added attraction of being somewhat "forbidden fruit".

Kopa Series - this one's a given, if somewhat of a cheat, since a couple of the early issues are already selling for well over their original MSRP.

#1 C105BMP – Persian Folder PlainEdge will be #1. I remember really well what happened with C83. With all my love to big Persian, C105 has quite a few advantages, especially like gents knife. And it looks like no gents knives left in spyderco line-up.

#2 C92 Kopa. Some of them.
Some of them sought already. Less than 600 of each sold as NIB (600 made, but some sold as seconds). IIRC last Cocobolo was sold on the bay for over $300 and usually they catching $200+. Tiger Coral also already up there.

#3 C113GP – Caly3 PlainEdge has a lot of potential, unless Caly4 will be released in this case, C111GP – Captain PlainEdge or C124GPFG – Barong Foliage Green PlainEdge became #3 in my list.

Some people will have interest to this knives as well, mostly series collectors

C10GPFG – Endura Foliage Green G-10 PlainEdge
C28PET – Dragonfly Etched PlainEdge
C29PET – Cricket Etched PlainEdge
C41CFP – Native Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C116CFP – Superhawk Carbon Fiber PlainEdge

Barong Foliage Green PlainEdge
Khukuri Foliage Green PlainEdge
Persian Folder PlainEdge
they are definately in a league of their own.

though who knows if the cheaper
Endura or Delica Emerson Openers could turn out to be real sleepers in the long term...

btw, any one of the opinion that the Byrd Knife Series would be collectable in their own right?

I highly doubt the Byrd series ever reaches status as collectors.
Chinese made and at a budget price is going to keep that from happening, IMO.
USA and Japan made will always be the ones most sought after by collectors, it seems.

Anything's possible, there's probably someone out there who collects vintage Alpo cans. But I doubt they'll ever develop a large following. The only exception might be the Harriers. So far, they are the only Byrds that have developed some collector interest. The large Harrier partly because it was the first Byrd folder and partly because it was only made for a fairly short time. The small Harrier because only a few ever made it out into the wild.

Jill I agree with you 100% on that. I'm not knocking the Byrds because I know many people who love them. But in my opinion the Japan and Golden CO USA made Spyders just have superior quality. And I think overall quality contributes more to the long term collectibility of any knife but especially Spyderco blades.

There are some very possible predictions made as to which models will be the ones that catapult in price and collectibility. Because many Spyderco models when they were in the line up were losers sales wise but some of them became highly coveted later i.e. The Big Calypso for instance was a terrible seller when it was still manufactured.

However the unique designs seem to fare very well in the long run. The Dodo being an excellent example along with the Matriarch & Lum Tanto folder and fixed blades both. Yep a loser at the box office is often a winner later on. Blue PE Spyderhawk will attest to that one.

C41CFP – Native Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C116CFP – Superhawk Carbon Fiber PlainEdge
C105BMP – Persian Folder PlainEdge.

+1

All 3 were fairly popular when they were in production, when they go out I can see them being
even more so. The whole don't know what you've got untill it's gone thing springs to mind.

Don't know if it will be the most sought after but agree with elkins45, the G10 FFG Endura is my favorite Spydie.

I will agree with this list also, but I think you might be able to sub the Barong or Khukri for the Persian simply due to the difference in production numbers.
