What a beast...

That would work if you had a good supply of belts. The 2 x 72/50 x 2000 belts appear to be an odd size for most industries, but the good news is that we have an incredibly wide selection of grits/belt types available in our odd sizes.

The industrial suppliers sell all out "special" belts in the industrial sizes, like 2X132, 2X90, etc. Most will make any size to order in dozen lots. The price is by the SqIn, so they are the same price as 2X72" by surface area. Also, many types of wet grinding belts are available from industrial suppliers.

TIP, to get a better fit for large contact wheels, just use a longer belt. A 16: wheel on a 2X72 will barely fit with the arm all the way back. Switch to a 2X90 and it fits fine. Same for an extra long flat platen. Just use a longer belt.

2 x 72" is a "special" size in most places outside North America. Most of the guys in Europe with homebuilt 2 x 72 grinders will use a slightly longer tooling arm to allow the use of 50mm x 2000mm belts (or even 50 x 2500 mm belts) which tend to be more standard locally.

I know this manufacturer and some grinders from him personally from local knife shows and knife festivals. I can say that grinders are very professional made with rigid construction and lot of useful additions. Some of My friends have grinders from him and they are very satisfied. He sell belts too. I can recommend it.

That is a very interesting grinder. I like it a lot, I don't think I'd like the price tag. Looks well though out.
