The knives are out

binaknife.jpg

Hundreds of knives are now out of harms reach, thanks to the continuing success of the joint council and police campaign encouraging people to ‘bin a knife’.

Since the 2005 bin a knife campaign started, the bin has been located in car parks a month at a time for people to dispose of illegal or unwanted knives anonymously.

When the bin was emptied in May the haul of blades included 378 knives, three meat cleavers and a sword. All these potential weapons have now been melted down and the metal recycled.

PC Mick Dunckley, of the council's community safety team, said: “Alarmingly knife-related incidents in the UK have risen over the last year, although there is no evidence that an increase applies to Hillingdon.

“The council and the police are striving to make Hillingdon a safer borough and this scheme is a key part of that aim."

Throughout June the bin will be at Tesco’s car park, Willowtree Lane, Hayes and in July, in Sainsbury’s car park off York Road in Uxbridge.

More proof that the left would rather feel good then do something useful.

I can't believe they're doing this!

Probably not*; this was likely a staged photo op and the knives were purchased on ebay and later sold the same way. People may not have a lot of sense, but even a rabid liberal cares about his pocket change.

*notice that the knives appear relatively clean - no rust, fragments, or broken sheaths, as one would expect had these actually been old neglected knives that had been droped roughly into a dumpster and left exposed to the elements for a month.

I guess then, based on that logic we need to make a bin for forks and spoons to be disposed of because everyone knows that they cause obesity.

Yes, we need to get all the forks and spoons out of the hands and kitchens of America and make the plastic ware illegal. They are the reason we are fat you know.

If someone is going to promote such logic as this, one has to ask where will it stop? If the above seems rediculous good. That was my point so you got it. If it makes sense to you and sounds legit I'm gonna have to say a prayer for you right away though because you have really lost it.

Why is it that someone can read the above and see the nonsense so easily but they lose it for other things? Very puzzling IMO.

Mum: Where are my bloody kitchen knives??!?!?!?!?!

Son: Oh yes Mum, you'll be glad to know I took those awful weapons down to the knife bin at the park so that no awful harm can be caused by them.

Mum: If I had my bloody kitchen knives they would be bloody with your blood you stupid idiot!!! I guess you just won't get dinner as I can't cut up the chicken and vegetables now!

What a bunch of absolute shite! :barf:

Pretty soon no one will be able to use OR produce anything. As we wouldn't want ANYTHING that could EVER POSSIBLY be used as a weapon. They'll be writing with charcoal pencils because they won't want any dangerous pens or pencils around.

Jeez...

I can kill you with a wooden stick - ya gonna ban trees?
yeah, lets cut down the forests, burn em.

can't believe people would actually do that.

Kind of ironic that if you scroll down that same webpage you'll find mention of an upcoming event: "Squires, court jesters and ladies of the court will be heading to Manor Farm, Ruislip in August to enjoy knights in combat, workshops and family entertainment at this year’s medieval festival." Don't imagine any of those knights will have any of those 'dangerous' knives, do ya? And at a family event, too! :D

And, thought it funny that the webpage quotes a constable referring to the knife collection as a "scheme". Freudian slip, perhaps?

As England's crime rate continues to climb they are going to make it safer by taking away "weapons" .As a kid I read lots of british murder mysteries. From those stories I knew of just about every murder weapon that could be thought of. The knives and guns and swords were only a small fraction of the total. They better expand the list quickly !!!

What they fail to mention is most of the nice pieces won't be melted down or recycled, but conviently disappear in one of their trunks on the way home one night. Same as the various gun collection schemes they've had in the US. I think stupidity has killed more people then all the guns, knives, and bombs in history.

Typical of the socialist left!
What those a$$ holes have yet to learn is that the weapon is not that which is held in ones hands but, rather, that which is held in ones heart!
There is presious little can not be made to serve as a leathal weapon if a person truly wishes to kill.

let's see............hammers, ball bats, pipe, a wrench, a screw driver, a tree limb, a rock, a pencil, a tire iron, a frying pan, a piece of glass, a beer can...........the list is endless.

The really scary part of this is that we are, perhaps, looking into our own futre here.

It was Col. Mustard in the library with a candlestick
or was it Professor Plum in the kitchen with a pipe wrench?

They had one of theose gun buybacks in Detroit about 10 years ago. You got a $50 gift certificate from one of a dozen retailers. It was all old ladies bringing in old guns their dead husbands had stashed away in the basement. Most didn't look like they even worked, missing pieces or clearly broken or badly rusted.

The banning of knives guns and what have you stems from fear a thing moree widely dispenced then common sense and good reason but at last we must see that in a democracy even the idiots get to vote much worse the scared idiots. Ilove my fredom and the ability to speak my mind but some where it only became convienent to let my have fredom if i could pay for it and speak my mind ias long as it didn'toffend or scare anyone else.

I am not responsible for how someone feels that should be under their control but some how through fear and the willingnes to want to take control of things the world around us makes us resposible for every thing in order that they can have control. Like sensible and reasonable people know control total control is an illusion.

So to those people who are scared of guns and knives I say get a hold of yourself and control your own emotions for that is one of the few things you can actually control. Also watchout there is a man standing behind you with a golf bag who is more dangerous then the guy peeling his apple with a paring knife.

Actually, after last June, it became an offence to manufacture (or purchase etc.) a baton. Or, in other parlance, a stick. So ASPs and similar are out. Oh, and a local council recently cut down a 700 year old yew tree in a churchyard because "paedophiles might hide behind it".

It isn't exactly easy dealing with this drivel on the ground here... Add to that the majority of people appear unable to grasp the concept of knife as tool, rather than knife as weapon.

On the other hand, I think I've just come up with a good way of disposing of my grinding errors - I mean, practice pieces :)

Peter

Oh, I had to laugh at the sheer foolishness of the whole concept! Where do these people come from, and do they really think idiocy like this makes a difference to a criminal? I just want to pat them on the back, "There there, it'll all be okay." Crimeny, I just don't get it.

And watch out, this could truly be America's future too. All those moms who think guns and knives cause crime are convinced they have the solution. What they should really be doing is raising responsible children, but that's would mean they couldn't blame someone else when their kids went bad. No one wants to take responsibility for their own lives anymore; it's sad and frightening.

What's worse, how many times do you show one of your knives to a non-knife person and the first thing they do is slash the air with it? Are you really surprised when these sad dumb people equate knives and weapons? How many people do you know in everyday life who carry a pocket knife? I don't know any; no one in the office where I work carries a pocket knife. You should see them trying to open a ream of paper, for example... What a struggle! I just open my knife and get the paper out, but I've seen people actually flinch when I pull a pocket knife out of my pocket and cut the wrapping. Freaks me out.

Clearly now the violent criminal types are unarmed and no longer pose a threat. Next in line: cricket bats. Then it's time to take on sharpened pencils. :barf:
