What About a High End Passaround???

Some recent threads have left me really wanting to buy a nice folder like a Sebenza or like. But I don't think I would spend that type of money on a knife without handling one and using it first. Since the chances of CKT donating a folder for a passaround is slim, Why don't we get a list of about 10 people that are willing to spend $30 to be a apart of a semi-high end passaround group??

Once the first knife has made its way around, you could sell it and split the profits or buy another nice knife for the same purpose.

Is this a stupid idea?? I know I would participate.:)

I actually want to try out the William Henry Carbon Fibre Lancelet ;)

I would be into the idea, with the exception of the $30 part. $10 would be more like it. I would really would like to handle a Sebbie since no one in my area carries them.

Thing is they cost $250+ and it would be best to keep it down to around 10 people so you can keep it for a week or so and still get around the list fairly quick. I know what you mean though, Hell I wish we could do this without money, but as I mentioned before, no ones going to donate one :(

Hey me too.. a Black & Blue Lancet with the Boron coat? and ur not too far from me too.. but who else is gonna wanna pass one around :(

Actually that WAS next knife on my wish list but recent price drops in a lot of knives and discontinued models has made me think twice....

Sounds great, but a few questions...Who owns it in the end? Who manages the knives and money?

In the end, I would guess that it gets sold and the money can either be redistributed to the people who paid or used to buy another knife for the same purpose. As far as who manages money, We would need a someone to voluntier if we had enough people interested.

Not it!! :D

Jason,

If you want to check out a Sebenza; I'll send you my large if you will pay shipping and insurance both ways, but it's Left Handed?

Maybe we should start a special "gold members club" for people to check out knives if they are willing to pay shipping and insurance up front?

I tried a sebenza passaround with a $20 donation to the LED museum some months ago. I figured I would be overwhelmed by responses, turns out only 4 people signed up.

I hate to say it but I think even $20 or $30 is too much for some people. It also seems there was very little interest in the Lum chinese passaround when it up forsale. I think people want to try stuff, but they are less willing to buy.

How about this idea, 10 interested people send in their $33 or so to a collection person, that person could buy the knife. Then at the end of the passaround, one of the 10 people would win the knife with a random pick out of a hat. The cost is high, but the incentive is high too. And if the person didn't like the knife and they won it, they could sell it. Even if they just got $200 for it, they would still gain approximately $170.

i'll go for it when you get it all figured out and the 20.00 or 30.00 seems fair to me.

The raffle/drawing deal sounds good to me too. DaveH, your a passaround guru, looks like you already got a couple of people ready to sign up :)

Consider me for it Dave. I still play with the Spyderco/Centofante I got from the last passaround I was in.:D

I'd be in to it for $30 if we could sell it afterwards and split the profits to make back some of the initial investment, or make it like a lottery and give it away to one of the people who participated in it. I would really only be interested if it was a large Sebenza though. That is the one knife that I have not been able to handle but I'm really interested in.

Great idea BadGuy, count me in. I think Dave is onto something with the raffle. I would love to get my paws on a Sebenza and possibly even win one. The Temperance passaround was awesome and I would have loved to be able to win that one. There is a lack of knife shops around here.

I just dropped DaveH a line and hopefully we can make this thing happen. So those of you that were interested, Please stay tuned while this thing becomes a reality. :D
