What About a High End Passaround???

I'll just lay out all my concerns:

In previous passarounds, if a person tries it for a week, then the average is two weeks (including transit time) per person. So for 10 people that would take almost 3 months.

You could add more people to make it cheaper per person, but then it's a hassle to track it. The longer it takes, the more people will forget about it, the liklyhood someone looses it or it gets lost in transit also increases.

IMO, ten is the maximum number to participate. Which would mean for a new non-discounted sebenza, for example, would mean a minimum of $33 or so up front.

Eveyone would have to agree on the make and model.

Everyone would have to agee on how it's purchased and for how much.

Out of ten people, probably 3 would decide they don't want to participate after they said they would, meaning you have to go back and get more people to meet your $$$ requirements.

What if you don't get any more people? Then you have to send the money back to everyone. Plus some will want to pay by paypal, some by check, some by money order and you have to gather it all and make sure you have it all before you get the knife.

What if someone looses the knife halfway through? There's no knife to sell or get the money out of, so I guess everyone is out of luck?

So far the selling when the passaround is over hasn't worked, why I'm not quite sure. Oh, and who has the resposibility of selling it? What if it needs a refurb before it's in a salable condition?

I don't mean to sound too negative, but I've seen people get pissy about $5, let alone $30 and a high end knife.

If we could get 10 people to get in on it, I would be will to co-ordinate the passaround.

However, any participants must realize that this is a risk they are taking, and they many not recover all, or any, of the $30+ that they will have to invest.

From the looks of it, we have a few people interested already:
im2smrt4u
TheBadGuy
yiterp
T. Erdelyi
slide13
metaxasm
BurkStar

That is seven so far. A few others and we might be able to pull this off.

BTW, I know I can have the local knife shop order any Sebenza, but I'll have to pay tax on it too. If anyone has a better place to buy one (other than eBay) let me know.

Clarification please:

- What brand and model are we talking about?

- Is it a passaround too? For how long?

- Are you selling it or raffling it when the passaound is done?

1. My pick would be a Large Plain Sebenza (not classic).
2. Yes. One week per person like mentioned before.
3. I think it should be sold here on Bladeforums, but I think more people want it raffled.

My vote (as if it counts) would be for a Sebenza and for a raffle at the end. As a suggestion, we would all have to use registered mail, so that the next person would have to sign for delivery. Any person on the list, once signed for would be liable for loss. I don't know how legally binding this would be, but maybe a form stating this that everyone would have to sign. That and be picky about who participated in this initial pass-around. Just suggestions, but I'd really like to see this come to fruition.

If we wanted a signature confirmation, I'd use FedEx instead of the Postal Service...

I think we all pretty much agree that it should be a plain large Sebenza. I don't care where we get it from.

I've got a knife shop right around the corner from my house that has a large plain Sebenza for $365, no taxes. If it can be beat, no problem, let us (or Dave H. :) )know.

Steve,

The large plain Sebbies retail (MSRP) for $345. You could order one from any of the online retailers (Nordic Knives springs to mind, but there are many others) for that price plus shipping.

Beats $365 by at least $10, I'd say :)

Just mentioning what they were going for here in Phoenix, evidently they're pretty scarce as I traded a decorated one for my Bullnose Maxx. Didn't say I had a good deal, just letting y'all know what I could get one for.

So, Large Plain Regular Sebenza it is, right?

Well, if no one objects, I'll call up 1sks and see if they have any...

It looks like it will be about $35 per person. Anyone who wants in for sure, email me and we can work out payment details.
